Suncoast Summer

Reading Challenge and TBIC!

Weekly Newsletter

The Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading is is a community-wide effort serving Charlotte, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties focusing on School Readiness, Attendance, Summer Learning, Family Engagement and Health Determinants. Research shows that children who do not read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress. In response, the Suncoast Campaign for Grade-Level Reading sponsors the Suncoast Summer Reading Challenge to encourage each participating student to read! The Suncoast Summer Reading Challenge is implemented by SCGLR and promoted through local summer camps and businesses to encourage children to read, reducing the "summer slide". In addition, THIS BOOK IS COOL! is a series of 100 webisodes to encourage a love of reading. This summer more than 3,000 children from across the Suncoast region will receive free books thanks to the generosity of The Patterson Foundation!

What Parents Are Saying About TBIC!

"Hi there! We are loving the books and their corresponding lessons. I wanted to share a couple of pictures from the projects we have done so far. I appreciate this program so much and cannot tell you how excited I am to continue it through the summer. I have greatly appreciated that the books from your program have been challenging. Our daughter is a pretty advanced reader and, much of the time, it seems like books designed for her particular grade level are just too basic. However, the books and corresponding lessons from your program have been appropriately challenging and fun. Thank you SO much!”

"My son is thrilled with the books!  He loves all of them and wants to read them all."

"My daughter received her books from school. She has already read What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? So fun!"

Everyday Summer Reading Fun!

Broaden Your Child's Horizons!

No matter where you live, your surroundings can provide rich experiences that help develop children's knowledge. The more knowledge your child has, the more success they will have in reading. Take a walk around the neighborhood together and allow your child to explore. Spend a day at the park, at the library or at the museum and share the experience together!

Reading is one of the most important skills a child can master.

Keep books readily available at home, in the car, wherever your day takes you!
