The election is just around the corner and early voting will begin in just under two weeks! Many House and Senate seats hang in the balance, but perhaps the most critical race hanging in the balance is the race for Governor.
As the highest elected official in the state, the Governor holds the power that truly determines the culture of the state, its success, its failures, and everything in between. As we approach the election in November, it is imperative to consider the powers that the governor holds and how it can affect our state when considering the issues we are already facing.
While there are many powers that the governor holds, such as budget approvals, enactment of legislation, veto power, confirmation of executive and judicial appointments and more, there are powers that can specifically affect some of the issues New Mexico is currently facing.
