In 2022 our Sustainability Team focused on providing tools and metrics that help assess our project goals. They worked closely with our Quality of Documents Team this year to integrate those tools into our design and documentation process to provide a holistic view of each project’s sustainability. We implemented a “material trade-off” educational series where the Sustainability Team presented alternatives to traditionally used materials that have less of an environmental impact and can improve interior air quality. The Sustainability team continues to provide education and tools to stay updated with a rapidly changing regulatory environment around sustainability and carbon reduction. We also continued to demonstrate our commitment to the AIA 2030 Challenge, and to implement material standards around interior health and embodied carbon.
We navigated the “new normal” and celebrated with baby showers, cookie swaps and a snowflake competition, a summer picnic at Tree House Brewing, volunteered for build days with Habitat for Humanity, organized design tours, and ended the year with an Amazing Race themed holiday party.

Amenta Emma was recognized with a J.E.D.I. certificate as one of the 29 firms who participated in the AIA Connecticut 2022 J.E.D.I. Challenge. This recognition is given to firms who strive to provide equitable, diverse and inclusive environments within their firms and their communities.
Our JEDI team organized its committee members into three specialty areas: Culture, Profession, and Design. This team structure allows us to divide and conquer our various tasks and goals based on individual interests.
Activities by JEDI/Profession team members included participation in the ACE Mentoring Program. The twice monthly after school sessions give the opportunity for our committee members to mentor high school students to expand their interest in the Architecture, Construction, and Engineering Industry. Additionally, team member Brian Gonzalez, participated in the 2022 My Architecture Workshops inaugural Summer Camp program in Stamford, CT. Brian was able to help the students build a model of Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, and in doing so inspire young minds to see architecture as a potential future profession.
JEDI team member, Debra Seay, presented a session with Yvonne Alston, CEO of Indelible Impressions, at the AIA CT Connecticut Architecture Conference + Expo (CACX’22) entitled “Moving Beyond Function: Designing With Others In Mind”.
