Annie Arrives in Newfoundland
2000 Sunday, July 17

I’ve taken over the Tazzarin email tonight. Time to give Bill a little break! As I am no where near the writer he is, it will be short and sweet.

I was up before dawn today to head to Newfoundland. Boston — Toronto — St. John’s: not exactly as the crow flies! But it gave me such a beautiful perspective. I’ve never flown over Lake Ontario, or across eastern Canada, where I could see the mighty St. Lawrence River as well as numerous other rivers and lakes and amazing expanses of green.

Coming into St. John’s was full of stunning views. I only had the presence of mind to snap a couple pictures at the last minute. It gives a sense of some of the beauty that awaits when Tazzarin sets sail again. On the left above is a view looking up the eastern shore of Conception Bay; Tazzarin is in Long Pond near the top left. On the right above is a view near Bay Roberts on the western shore of Conception Bay, across from Tazzarin.
Outdoor dining is the thing to do here — all the restaurants have some sort of patio. Bill says they’ve all gone up in the last couple of weeks. Here’s Bill enjoying his margarita at our dinner spot. And thanks to my sister Cath, we learned it was National Ice Cream Day so we had to celebrate. If only Dobby were here I’d have the trifecta of my favorite things.
