Rainy Day - Overhauling
1745 Saturday, July 30

It has been a rainy, grey day here much of the time. It is the sort of a day when a fisherman might opt to leave his punt ashore and spend the day at their shoreside shed repairing lobster traps, crab pots or nets. (Yes, they still use a lot of wooden traps up here.) It is the kind of a day when sailors might have spent some moments below attending to personal shores or "overhauling" their gear in their sea chest.
I have spent a good chunk of today attending to chores and overhauling my own gear, in preparation for a hopeful departure before the end of next week. I have planed the sides of some swollen planks in the cabin sole, charged electronics, replaced cotter pins, tightened lifeline turnbuckles, done some laundry, folded clothes and restowed them, replaced batteries in some flashlights, tested and rearmed an inflatable PFD, a a number of other tasks. It feels good to have my mind contemplating a departure. Just like the fishermen overhauling gear in their sheds, I too am anxious to head out again.

It is looking like Annie will be flying back up to join me as Tazzarin heads north for St. Anthony. Keep your fingers crossed regarding my engine repairs...

The top two photos are at Fishing Island in the outport of Bauline; the photo below is a shed in Quidi Vidi.
