Student ID's

Student ID's will be given to the students this week. All Smithfield Middle School Students will be required to wear ID's this year. Student ID's need to be brought and worn every day at school. This is an expectation from the district as it allows staff members to identify people in the building at any time. Also, students are able to use their ID to purchase a lunch by scanning the barcode and to check out books from the library. Please help us by asking your child if they have their ID before they leave for the day. Repeated violations of this policy can result in consequences.

ID's can be purchased for $5 at any time. If assistance is needed to ensure your child has an ID, please contact the office to work out a plan. Thank you for your help in communicating these expectations and ensuring your child has their current ID. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Does your child have lunch money in their account? Our cafeteria manager has asked that I send a message about lunch accounts that are at a zero balance. You can check your child's account with MyPaymentPlus. This will allow you to check balances, deposit money, view purchases made. For more information about My Payment Plus, click on My Payment Plus- FAQ.

Raider Assignment Recovery Program

5,474 Assignments Recovered in

2022-2023 School Year

During the 2022-2023 school year, Smithfield Middle School started the Raider Assignment Recovery Program. This program is designed to track assignments that have not been turned in; assignments that were not completed; or assignments that were unsatisfactory in the quality of work.

Students and parents are emailed three times a week on the specific assignments that need to be completed and turned in to the teacher. This provides the students a possibility to receive credit for the assignment and more importantly gain knowledge of the material.

Students are encouraged to come to tutorials both before and after school to complete any assignments that they need help on in order to complete the work. If they do not complete the work by Friday, they will have another opportunity to complete the work in a Thursday Night School.

Missing assignments is the number one reason students aren't successful in school. If this becomes a pattern for students, it usually leads to grade retention. Thank you for your continued support in helping your child recover any assignments that would otherwise be a zero. Please talk to your child about any assignments that they have missing.

Thank you,

Jason Turner, Principal

All Visitors Must Present ID's

All visitors coming into the building must present their ID's before coming into the building. The receptionist shall ask the visitor to identify themselves by giving their name, showing a driver's license or state-issued ID, and stating their purpose of business at Smithfield Middle.

Please help ensure these procedures are followed by having your ID present.

NEED TUTORIAL HELP? WE HAVE YOU COVERED!

Smithfield Middle School has a tradition of offering tutorials to students who might need assistance or for those who just want to go above and beyond. Tutorials are offered both before and after school starting as early as 7:30 am and often running until 5:30-6:00 pm. So here is how it works:

Morning Tutorials-Our tutorial board is located in the main front lobby and is turned on at 7:00 each morning. When a teacher arrives and is ready to receive students for tutorials they simply change their name from red to green. When a student sees that their teachers' name is green they simply walk to that classroom. It really is that easy!

What if my child's teacher is not present that day? Our teachers are great about covering for each other. Often times your child will see that their teacher's name is green but it will have a message to see another teacher. Since our teachers prepare lessons together, they can easily help any student. If for some reason your child's teacher is not present, please have them tell the administrator in the foyer they need assistance and WE WILL FIND A TEACHER TO HELP THEM.

Afternoon Tutorials-SInce many of our students are involved in morning activities such as athletics, band, choir, and clubs, we also offer tutorials in the afternoon. These tutorials are great for kids who know they might need help with the present day's homework. No need to check the board in the afternoon as our teachers will be available on most days. Students should report to their teacher's room as soon as the final bell rings. Please make sure they let you know they are staying by sending you a simple text or call.

All in all, most of our teachers offer well over 6 hours of tutorials a week in some form or fashion. If this system is not working for your child, we will figure something out.

Have your child talk to their teachers about approximate tutorial times.
