Jordan/Jackson Yearbook Chairs (2 Positions Available): Duties involve coordinating volunteer committee members and photographers; collecting, uploading and organizing photos from teachers and volunteers; taking candid photos periodically through the year; choosing a yearbook theme and designing layouts; working with J/J staff to create classroom pages; running the 5th grade photobooth day in late March; working with the publisher for online ordering and yearbook submission in April; in coordination with Robinson yearbook, collecting and entering yearbook orders; sorting and delivering yearbooks.
Yearbook runs from September to June, though the bulk of work takes place from the beginning of February to April Vacation. A lot of communication and design work can be done outside of school hours. Some daytime availability is helpful to take photos, collect orders, and distribute yearbooks at the school. It's possible to divide up responsibilities between co-chairs based on availability. The yearbook is very popular with students and families, and MESA gifts every 5th grader a book as a 'graduation present.' In addition to the satisfaction of seeing your creation in print, yearbook volunteers get a great glimpse into life at the J/J, and interact with all teachers and office staff!
Book Fair Committee Opportunities: If you have already volunteered for the book fairs, and have learned the routine during a classroom visit and/or have operated the registers, this opportunity is perfect for you. MESA is lucky to have dedicated book fair chairpersons at each school, but as they phase out and train new chairpersons, we would like to help them by padding their committees. What they need are volunteers who can work a couple of shifts throughout the fair - that’s it! Even if you have no experience yet, book fair is a quick study! Please note: the fall book fair, in December, will now only be open during parent-teacher
conferences. The spring book fair will continue to be open the entire week of parent-teacher conferences in March (J/J) and April (Robinson) and students will shop with their class. Volunteering at the book fairs is a very rewarding experience!
Community Drives Committee Opportunities: Every school year MESA runs a food drive in the fall for Mansfield’s Food Pantry, Our Daily Bread, and a clothing and holiday gift drive in November, in conjunction with Mansfield’s West Side Benevolent Circle (proceeds go to families in need chosen by WSBC). Joining this committee is an excellent way to test the MESA waters! Preparation for both drives can be done on your own time, and involves things like collecting materials needed for food and clothing donations, and setting up a Sign Up Genius form for volunteer and donation opportunities. The food drive involves availability for two mornings in September when the donations are collected from the classrooms and transported to Our Daily Bread and the clothing drive involves collecting items from the bins at each school a couple of times on your own schedule (some time between 9-4 on school days). This committee can be successful with 2-3 volunteers, and if you are interested, this upcoming school year is the time to join, as our veteran committee members are sticking around for one more year to help teach someone new the ropes!
