Credit Card Chargebacks - What you Need to Know

Credit card chargebacks are on the rise. Dishonest customers know they can often get their purchase refunded by their card issuing bank simply by submitting a chargeback. To avoid losing a potential chargeback, avoid hand-keying credit card numbers; typically, those taken over the phone. Chip-read card transactions are much more difficult for customers to dispute than ones where a credit card number is keyed into your payment device by hand. In fact, disputes over key-entered transactions in a card-present environment are considered an immediate loss. In the event you are not able to process a chip-read or swiped card transaction, you should request another form of payment as opposed to hand-keying card numbers.

If you are faced with a potential chargeback, or should you have questions, our NWACA Associate Member payments processors are here to help. Feel free to contact Tracy Franks of Tech-Payments or Bobby Walker of Association Processing.
