Temporary Signs, Banners, & Promotional Devices

Montclair Businesses, the City of Montclair recognizes the benefit of temporary banners for restaurant and retail businesses and other uses within the community.

When properly designed and installed, banners can be an effective means of identifying a business or special event while maintaining an attractive and well-managed community.

Examples of banner uses include, but are not limited to:

• Grand opening banners

• Coming soon banners

• Advertising banners

Without appropriate standards and limits, the use of banners and other sign devices can easily get out of control and adversely affect the appearance of the City’s commercial corridors.

Business owners continuing the practice of using approved, temporary signage of any type will be required, effective October 1, 2023, to comply with banner-related regulations as provided in the Montclair Municipal Code, and summarized in the the flyer below.

For more information related to temporary signs, banners, and promotional devices and to read the Temporary Signs, Banners, & Promotional Devices Flyer please visit the link below.

September is National Disaster Preparedness Month – an important reminder to prepare for disasters and emergencies that can happen any time. Does your businesses have a plan? Beyond a routine checklist, it's about safety for your employees and customers as well as the continued operations during emergencies.

There are three steps businesses should take to prepare for emergencies: identify risks or hazards (earthquake, flooding, fire, etc.), develop a plan, and take action. Your plans and actions should include training employees in what to do during a disaster and having essential supplies on hand (fire extinguishers, tools, emergency food and water, etc.).

Communication is a critical component of any emergency plan. Know how and where to access real-time information and updates from city leaders, police and fire departments, as well as utility providers.

Monte Vista Water District (MVWD), Southern California Edison (SCE), and the City of Montclair are committed to providing residents and customers with timely information, especially during an emergency, through social media channels and websites.

If electricity or water service were suddenly interrupted, would your business and employees know what to do? Are you prepared for a long-term utility outage? MVWD, SCE, and the City of Montclair have several emergency preparedness and mitigation plans in place, but residents and customers are also encouraged to individually prepare for service disruptions.

To help your business develop emergency preparedness plans please visit Monte Vista Water District, Southern California Edison, and the City of Montclair for tips and resources on how to be disaster ready.
