The Venture Out Project x WRFI
Queer-Centered Ecology (Advanced Backpack/Kayak) - Rockies
We're so excited to be partnering with The Venture Out Project this summer to host an amazing trip in Glacier National Park and beyond! The week will be split between backpacking and kayaking excursions while focusing on ecology of the region, all taking place in a welcoming and inclusive environment. TVOP's mission is to create safe and transformative experiences in nature for the LGBTQIA+ community, and we're honored to share that mission with them! Don't miss out on this awesome opportunity - registration is open now, and the cost is on a sliding scale to fit your needs!

Location: Glacier National Park (Blackfoot, Kalispel, and Salish land)
Dates: July 6th-15th, 2023

Pre-College Summer Exploration
University of Montana
Here at WRFI, we're also excited to be partnering with the University of Montana for their Summer Exploration program, which allows high school students from Montana and beyond to get a taste of college life, with the option to join us and earn credit in the backcountry! Admitted students will explore all aspects of student life as they engage with world-class faculty, explore the iconic landscapes and communities surrounding Missoula, Montana, and build meaningful connections with other high school students.

Summer Exploration Details:
Who: 16-18 year old high school students
What: an immersive two-week course that provides a glimpse into college life
When: July 15th-28th, 2023
Where: The University of Montana (Missoula)
Cost: $3100 - limited scholarships are available - inquire now!

Featured Course: Southwest Climate Studio Art
Earn credit while creating art! This spring course is the perfect opportunity to combine your creativity with your love of the outdoors! Students will build art projects off of their experiences in the wilderness of New Mexico, as well as develop a deeper understanding of the role climate change plays in the region through engaging coursework and seminars with local residents. Hurry - this is a Spring Course that begins on May 14th!
Featured Course: Montana Afoot and Afloat
Earn credit exploring Montana via trails and rivers! This Fall course, worth 15 total credits, is all about examining the relationship between people and the land, specifically focusing on areas throughout Montana. Approximately half of the course is spent in the backcountry, from backpacking through wilderness areas, kayaking on the Missouri River, visiting Yellowstone National Park, and more. The other half is spent connecting with locals who depend on and care about the land they inhabit.
