California STEP Grant Applications Open
The California Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) Grant applications are open. STEP is a federally funded grant program that aims to increase export activities among small businesses. Companies can apply for reimbursable export vouchers, which can fund up to $10,000 in funding for export promotion activities.
Additionally, the GO-Biz International Affairs and Trade Team is hosting bi-weekly webinars for companies to learn about the eligibility requirements and application process.

Funding Added to Turf Removal Rebate Program
Monte Vista Water District (MVWD) is committed to supporting its commercial customers to achieve compliance with Assembly Bill 1572, which bans irrigating non-functional with drinkable water. We are pleased to share that our local partner, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, has secured $38 million in additional funding to enhance the region’s Turf Removal Rebate program.
The time is now to tackle your business’ landscape transformation project! The Turf Removal Rebate program can ease the financial burden of converting turf into more sustainable and water-efficient landscapes. Anticipated to be available January 2024, the additional funding will increase the Turf Removal Rebate from $2 to $3 a square foot (up to 50,000 square feet) of turf removed. That means your business can earn up to $150,000 back on a turf removal project! Program improvements will also include additional incentives for trees planted in the landscape transformation project. Since the new law requires businesses, schools, and manufacturing facilities to stop watering their grass that’s not used for recreational purposes, this is an ideal time to convert your landscape!
To avoid community blight from dead or non-irrigated grass, businesses should consider and plan for landscape transformation projects now before they are required to comply with the law.
