California has entered its fourth year of drought, with the last three years being the driest in our state’s recorded history. Monte Vista Water District, the water provider for your Montclair business, has renewed its Declaration of a Significant Water Supply Shortage in accordance with District Ordinance 33. This action extends last year’s declaration for another year, requiring customers to reduce water use by 20% and imposing the following water use restrictions:
- Outdoor watering is only allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, but not between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (with exceptions such as hand-watering or drip irrigation)
- No excess runoff from outdoor watering
- No hosing down driveways, sidewalks, buildings, or parking lots
- No using water in fountains or other water features without recirculation
- No watering during rain and 48 hours following
- Repair all plumbing and irrigation system leaks with seven (7) days of discovery
-
No water served at restaurants unless requested by the patron
- Options for non-daily linen service at hotels
- Water recycling systems required for conveyor and in-bay car washes, cooling towers and evaporative cooling systems
MVWD is committed to engaging and communicating with our customers as well as enforcing water use restrictions. Courtesy notices will be issued when water waste is reported, and fines may be levied on repeat violators not adhering to water use restrictions. The maximum fine currently authorized per violation is $200.
MVWD believes its customers will once again step up and answer the call to conserve as they have in the past. MVWD has many water saving programs available to help.
