Thank You for Your Support
2023 Housing Highlights
HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS GIVING TUESDAY
UPDATE: $8,250
From developing a new apartment complex to reclaiming existing homes for the local workforce, the Housing Trust has much to celebrate this year and you to thank.

There's still time left in 2023 to make a tax-deductible gift. With your continued support, we can ensure that everyone in our community has a safe place to call home.
RESIDENTS MOVE INTO POWDER LIGHT
On February 16, local businesses moved employees into Powder Light, the first development completed in Big Sky utilizing a dozen of the community's designated workforce water rights.
RIVERVIEW GROUNDBREAKING
On May 3, BSCHT broke ground on RiverView Apartments. Like Powder Light, RiverView uses community workforce water rights. Developers anticipate occupation of these 25 apartments in June of 2024.
REOPENED GOOD DEEDS
APPLICATIONS
On July 1, Good Deeds applications reopened thanks to funding from Elevate Big Sky and Resort Tax. The program recorded its first deed restriction for 2023 on October 2. Eight homes now have Good Deeds restrictions recorded on their titles.
CONTINUED RENT LOCAL PROGRAM
Since launching in 2021, Rent Local has provided 329 rentals to 131 locals. It also supports 45 local businesses' employees. Rent Local functions as the community's most immediate solution to addressing its lack of rental inventory while we build more permanent solutions like RiverView Apartments.

"Lotus Pad closes after 17 years"

"'It just has been a really weird year,' Omania said. 'We aren’t doing the sales that I thought we’d be doing—that we should be doing—yet all the prices have gone up. So the economics of it… the cashflow has been really difficult, and I haven’t been able to keep up with rent.'

As Lotus Pad’s rent deficit grew, Omania lost sight of the path forward. Her staff was struggling and leaving. She had taken on an undesired role as landlord as she leased three units for her staff. Omania’s responsibilities merged with business management and shifted away from being chef of a small restaurant.

'It just got to a point where it wasn’t healthy for my life… the dynamics of what it would take to keep [the restaurant] running wasn’t healthy for me financially, emotionally, physically,' Omania said."
