In December we announced that Annie's Paramount was the winner of the DCCA Streatery Award. DCCA Board Members and neighbors recently joined together for an early evening awards ceremony at Annie's. Nick Manning, the DCCA Board Member who spearheaded the effort and Susan Volman, DCCA President, presented Annie's with a certificate and prize.

Georgia Katinas, who is the 3rd generation Katinas and manager accepted the award on behalf of Annie's. Georgina and her father, the owner of Annie's, selected Dan Huff, a longtime bartender at Annie's (who can rock a pair of white boots!) to receive the generously donated hotel stay from the beautiful Eaton Hotel.

Membership Meetings to Resume in February
DCCA Membership Meetings are held on the first Monday of the month. Because that date fell on the New Year Holiday we will not be meeting in January but we look forward to seeing members on Monday, February 6th!

With cold weather and flu season in mind, the February meeting will be conducted online via zoom and will include neighborhood updates, a speaker from the Office of the Attorney General's Equitable Land Use Section, which has recently taken on a new role to advocate for the public interest before the Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Administration, and a Q and A!

You must be a member to attend online meetings - we will send all members a link to register later in the month.
Not yet a DCCA member or need to renew for 2023? The time is now!

Christmas Tree Compost Collection
christmas
DC government is reminding residents that Christmas trees and holiday greenery will be collected between Tuesday, January 3 and Friday, March 3.

This year, trees and greenery will be collected from the front of residences that receive DPW services. Remove ornaments and lights before putting your tree out to be composted.

Trees and greenery are typically collected by DPW crews within five days of set out. After March 3, composting is not guaranteed for trees and greenery because they are then collected with residential trash. Learn more HERE

Meals Provided to Dupont Unhoused by Zorba’s Cafe at Church of the Pilgrims
Since 1981, the Church of the Pilgrims has offered a simple meal and sack lunch for those in need on Sunday afternoons. Mitch Fulton, who coordinates the Open Table for the church, estimates that 15 or more individuals would not have a Sunday lunch without the program.

Zorba’s Cafe is in its seventh year of contributing soup-and-roll donations to individuals who are experiencing homelessness. According to Patricia Murphy, an Open Table volunteer leader with the Friends Meeting of Washington, Zorba’s has helped provide some 1,000 meals for the homeless since 2015. Murphy credits owners — Despina and Tina and their staff — for making the traditional Greek bean soup and homemade rolls that are a favorite for Open Table guests on the first Sunday of each month.

The Church of the Pilgrims’ Open Table is a community effort; additional volunteers and donations are welcome. To learn more click here.
