Nevada Builders Blueprint January 2023
Welcome Jaron Hildebrand
I'm excited to join Nevada Builders Alliance as the new CEO and to get to know all of you. For a little background, I've had the privilege of working with several associations including the Nevada Trucking Association and Nevada State Medical Association and am excited to bring that knowledge to this organization. I'm a Reno native and enjoy watching sports and spending time with my family. I'm also looking forward to advocating on behalf of our industry at the upcoming legislative session as well as growing our membership and member services. If you'd like to connect, share your concerns or discuss ideas, don't hesitate to reach out to me at jaron@nevadabuilders.org.

Worksite Housekeeping
We all have seen how fast a construction site can become a treacherous place to navigate when proper housekeeping is not maintained. And you have probably heard the phrase “a clean worksite is a safe worksite” which of course we find to be true. This year, emphasize safety and the importance of keeping the worksite clean and organized with your crews. In most cases, workers must deal with uneven ground and various obstacles that cannot be managed easily. When you throw in all the debris, used materials, and even staged materials that are waiting to be installed, the jobsite can become a very hazardous place to work. Beside all the focus four hazards which include, Electrical, Fall Protection, Caught-in and Struck by hazards, workers must also watch out for Slip and Trip hazards. Here are some tips to control conditions that expose workers to slip and trip hazards on the worksite.
·       Stage all mobile equipment in a safe manner, and keep the area around the equipment free from trip hazards.
·       Keep stairways, passageways, ladders, scaffold and gangways clear from any material and debris obstructions.
·       Gather up and remove debris to designated areas and plan for the adequate disposal of scrap, waste and surplus materials.
·       Secure loose or light material that can blow away or scatter in high winds.
·       Keep materials at least 5 feet from openings, roof edges, excavations or trenches.
·       Remove or bend nails down that are protruding from drop lumber and manage materials with broken and sharp edges.
·       Keep hoses, power cords, welding leads, and workstations from causing trip hazards in walkways and heavy traffic areas.
·       Store flammable or explosive materials such as gasoline, oil and cleaning agents away from other combustible materials.
These are just a few ways you can keep your worksite safe. And remember, every worksite has unique housekeeping challenges. Create a written housekeeping plan and go over it with your employees. They will not know your expectations if you do not communicate what they are. A clean and safe worksite is the goal during every phase of work. Do you part, be alert and watch your step.
