If you’ve ever been stumped by a tricky eFile, then you know Vitu’s Special Processing Unit (SPU) is always there to help push them through. But did you know there are transactions you can easily eFile yourself? For this third monthly installment of SPU reminders, we’ll show you what to do when you receive a Multiple VIN error, and what information you need to provide in order to clear the error.
Multiple VIN Error
If you receive a Multiple VIN error, first identify whether you are performing a used vehicle transfer or a non-resident transfer.
|
- For a used vehicle transfer, change the Locate Record By dropdown to Plate and input the most recent plate number.
|
- For a nonresident transfer, change the Locate Record By drop down to VIN and input the correct VIN and TIN.

Is your dealership planning to rearrange the office or move to a new location — including changing floorplans? If so, it requires a signed and written packet with photos by your dealership’s BPA Program Administrator who then sends it directly to Vitu (usually your Account Executive). Our Contracts Team reviews and forwards all changes and requests to California BPA. Keep in mind that any changes made to the placement of the DMV Clerk's desk, such as adding a second eFiling PC or the relocation of the business office, require that the BPA be notified.
According to the CA Code of Regulations (Cal. Code Regs. Tit. 13, § 225.42 (8) - Business Partner Changes):
|
- Changing a pre-approved floor plan or adding a terminal requires that the business partner notify the BPA Program Administrator no less than 20 days prior to the change.
|
- A business partner shall notify the BPA Program Administrator in a signed and written notification on business partner letterhead and sent by facsimile, U.S. mail, or private courier no more than five days after the effective date of the change of operations contact person.
|
If you’ve had a change to the dealership floor plan that affects the DMV Clerk’s desk or any shift in the operations contact person, be sure to give your BPA Program Administrator the required paperwork and photographs for approval.
For any questions, please contact your Account Executive or email our Contracts Department at [email protected].

Alexandra Chavez is an Account Executive at Vitu working with our dealer partners in the Inland Empire — Riverside and San Bernardino counties . She trains your staff on using DMVdesk along with reviewing the proper procedure for filing DMV paperwork — ensuring that everything moves smoothly and swiftly at your dealership. Additionally, Alexandra helps with error corrections, DMS DMV fees analysis, and even eFiles from time to time.
Being knowledgeable and familiar with all aspects of the day-to-day titling and registration work is thanks to her many years of experience in the auto industry. At age 18, Alexandra started at a dealership in the business office and continued with various aspects of the industry — including sales — until joining Vitu in September 2017.
Happily married to her hardworking husband and their three children keep them both busy. When not encouraging her children’s interest in softball and baseball, Alexandra enjoys spending time unwinding with camping, swimming, and reading a good book.
Finding the good in people, whether it be family, friends, co-workers, customers, or even strangers is Alexandra’s personal philosophy. “We never know what people are going through,” she shared. Striving to make things easier for others so they can more easily share that good amongst each other, she is always pushing herself to do better, just like her husband. Keep working towards a brighter future, Alexandra!
