July is Smart Irrigation Month!

Monte Vista Water District (MVWD) is joining the Irrigation Association in recognizing July as Smart Irrigation Month! Water is a precious resource for our community, and the irrigation industry provides products, technologies, and practices to help protect our water supplies by improving efficiencies. This year’s theme, “What’s the value of smart irrigation?” is a great reminder that we all are responsible for using water wisely. Here are some notable values that waterwise landscaping can provide:

  • Environmental Sustainability – Irrigated green spaces provide biodiversity and habitat for pollinators, create opportunities for carbon sequestration, and provide cooling for urban areas.

  • Vital Green Spaces – Through smart and efficient irrigation, communities can improve green spaces that result in carbon sequestration, soil conservation, and plant pollination.

  • More Livable Communities – Smart irrigation creates green spaces where people can play and stay active, providing healthy benefits for our community.

  • Cutting-Edge Careers – Smart irrigation creates technical and vocational jobs that keep our communities thriving.

  • Water Conservation – Using smart irrigation options like weather- and soil moisture-based controllers that automatically adjust the watering schedule based on conditions at your location helps keep your landscape healthy, while using less water.

  • Thriving Economies & Businesses – The irrigation industry contributes over $23 billion annually to the U.S. economy and enables businesses large and small to thrive.

MVWD will cohost a FREE online workshop on Drip Irrigation Fundamentals, led by Green Gardens Group (G3) on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. Workshop will include an understanding of soil moisture balance; key components of properly installed drip irrigation systems; typical problems with drip and how to avoid them; and developing a successful maintenance practice.
