Caregivers' Sharing
A Heartwarming Journey: Stories of Care and Community from Our Dedicated Caregiver"

I started volunteering at Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (previously named "Volunteer Richmond") in 2010 as an office assistant and Christmas Fund Program volunteer. The Richmond Christmas Fund is one of the RCRG programs that distribute grocery gift cards and toys to low-income individuals and families, including seniors.

We are so lucky to have the RCRG Richmond Family & Friend Caregiver Hub, where caregivers can access peer support, workshops, a resource library, and many services. From each month's newsletter, we can gather more information from the "Community Resources" section. Moreover, caregivers who participate in the Hub share their knowledge and skills by hosting workshops for others. Thanks to the RCRG Caregiver Hub, I had the opportunity to share my skills as the facilitator of the "Introduction to Music Reading & Playing" workshop. Two years ago, when I moved to a seniors housing facility, I started helping my neighbors by translating English letters and booking doctor's appointments. In return, they gave me tips on cooking. This is a great example of how seniors need to support each other.

Considering the future situations and challenges of caring for a large number of elderly people as the Baby Boomers generation ages, I hope this program will continue to support caregivers and care recipients.
