The Illinois Secretary of State increased the Title Fee from $155 to $165 on July 1, 2023, with a 'grace period' until Thursday July 6, 2023.
This means:
- Any transactions (this also includes July purchase dates) which were "Pended" on or before July 6, 2023 will have a title fee of $155 upon completion.
- All transactions 'Pended' on July 7, 2023 will reflect the $10 increase no matter the Purchase Date.
Important: All transactions with the $155 title fee MUST be in the Illinois Secretary of State's office by Monday, July 31, 2023 or the $10 fee will be charged.

Tips
- Please send your applications in the order they are listed on your cover sheets. This enables paperwork to be audited, processed and sent to the state more quickly.
- Paperclips are our friends. This will reduce processing time for our audit team as well as reduce the possibility of lost or mismatched paperwork.
- Please pay attention to the bell notifications at the top right of the screen. These indicate updates, changes and other important information to do with your dealership’s title & reg process.
|
Forms
- If your dealership is listed on the Supplemental Assignment form, also known as a ‘Title Rider,’ you must get the title into your dealership's name first. You cannot reassign the vehicle to the new buyer(s) on the Supplemental Assignment form.
- Illinois Secretary of State (SOS) rejects any secure power of attorney forms that have the same customer name listed on PART A and PART B. The only time they should be filled out is if the original seller is listed on PART A and the new owner is listed on PART B. This also requires PART C to be completed.
- Odometer statements cannot be signed for as “e-signature”. This will result in an error either by our audit team or SOS. A digital signature or wet ink signature is acceptable.
- Double check that all your paperwork is signed either by the dealer or customer. An application missing signatures that are not accompanied by a Power of Attorney will unfortunately delay your application from being processed.

Brent Hofert is an Illinois Account Executive who has been with Vitu since November 2022. Before joining Vitu, Brent worked for a car rental company assisting dealers with their loaner programs.
Brent has a wife and two and a half year old son, and loves spending time with his family and out on the golf course — he recently attended the John Deere classic and plans on attending the BMW championship in August — “anything I can do to be around golf I try to make work, when possible!” Brent says his inspiration is trying to provide for his own family the way his parents provided for him as an only child.
Since joining Vitu, Brent is happy to help customers in every step of the tax, title and reg process, and “tries to do right by our customers and give them as many tools as possible to accomplish what is needed.”
Brent also states that he’s a firm believer in “killing with kindness.” “Whether it is work related or something in my personal life, I believe treating people with respect and kindness goes a long way and will get you much further in life than negativity or anger,” Brent said. “I attribute my accomplishments in life to being kind and having a positive attitude.”
