A Testimony of Support: Dive into the World of Our Caregiver Hub and Transform Your Experience!
It has been just over one year since I started to participate in the programs and activities facilitated by the RCRC Caregiver Hub team. The programs started out virtually on Zoom, which was a good way to connect during the COVID-19 Pandemic where there were minimal opportunities to connect with others. I am happy to see that the programs have resumed in-person activities. I am very appreciative for the opportunities to engage with other caregivers and break up the daily routine as I take on more responsibilities to care for my parents and other seniors in the community. I also appreciate the opportunity to bring my parents along to participate in the programs and activities. It helps them to connect with other seniors and caregivers in the community to strengthen their social network, and exposes them to activities which they have never tried before.
The staff at the Caregiver hub organizes a variety of programs and activities which are thoughtful, engaging and educational, and well organized. My parents and I especially enjoy the healthy cooking series put on by Chef Willie. It is a casual experience to learn some new cooking skills and gain exposure to dishes which we do not eat regularly. I've also enjoyed the various arts and crafts activities including sewing a tote bag and flower arrangement. I have also participated in several field trips/outings, which are excellent for mental health and stress reduction and allows participants to visit some new places. The free shuttle buses which are arranged by the staff are the Caregiver Hub is an excellent service.
By participating in the programs hosted by the RCRG Caregivers hub, I've become more aware of the resources and support available to caregivers in Richmond and in the province of BC. I hope to be able to continue to partake in the caregiver programs to learn to provide better care to my parents and other seniors in the community.
As the population grows older, there will be a greater demand for care and the adults in my generation will need access to information on how to best support our seniors while taking care of our mental health. I believe that the Caregivers Hub will become a valuable resource and asset for the caregivers in the community of Richmond. I hope that this program continues to grow and provides opportunities to network with other caregivers in a casual, educational and interactive manner.
