Michelle's Eco-Brick Project

Spreading Joy and Beautifying Schools in Nairobi

We are thrilled to update you on Michelle Muturi's remarkable eco-bricks project! Michelle, a passionate environmentalist, has been tirelessly working towards beautifying the environment of three schools on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, using plastic bottles filled with sand. Her efforts have not only created stunning visual transformations but have also ignited sheer joy among both Michelle and the children.

Imagine the look of pure delight on Michelle's face as she witnesses her vision come to life as the eco-bricks are creating benches on the school playground. With each bottle filled with sand, Michelle's project not only reduces plastic waste but also positively impacts the educational spaces. The children, too, are brimming with happiness and pride as they contribute to creating their own vibrant and eco-friendly learning environments.

Elisa Summer Project - La Gente

Celebrating Latinx Identity and History.

Here is another update on the incredible progress of Elisa Velasco's Summer Program, "Historia de la Gente," with Latinx High School students in Norman, Oklahoma. This unique program aims to explore the students' identity, delve into the rich and complex history of Latinx people, and foster a supportive network of friends and mentors.

The captivating photos are from a recent trip to the Oklahoma History Center this past month. The students embarked on an immersive journey through the exhibits, delving into the stories that shaped our shared history. They even had the opportunity to explore an exhibition trunk from storage, uncovering hidden past treasures.

The highlight of the day was when the students collaborated to plan and create their own exhibits on posters. One group, as depicted in the photo below, focused on influential Latina women. Their presentation boldly declared, "Latina women are seen as housewives who clean and cook, but it is not who we are. Nowadays, Latina women have managed to overcome the struggles stemming from the color of their skin to what gender they are." This powerful statement recognized the strength, resilience, and beauty of being Latina.

"They are brilliant.  We are having a great time so far and, I’m so thankful for the opportunity and your continuous support."
