You have just six short weeks to review your health insurance options for 2023. Here is what you need to know! 

The Washington Health Benefit Exchange (WAHBE) has extended the open enrollment period to

January 15, 2023.

Any changes made December 16

through January 15 will have a

February 1, 2023, effective date.

By now, you should have received your renewal information. If you are enrolled outside the exchange, this will come directly from the carrier. For everyone else, the renewal notice will be initiated by the exchange and can be found in your message center.

If making household or income changes for January 1st, the application should be submitted between November 16th and December 15th. Application changes through November 15th will take effect December 1st. 

New state subsidies and expanded tax credits for eligible individuals and households:

Since the rollout of the ACA, there has been a lot of frustration about a known flaw called the “Family Glitch” which prevented anyone in the household from receiving tax credits if the employee was offered affordable health insurance through an employer. Because the calculation was based on the employee's portion of the premium to enroll on the lowest cost option for their coverage only, many families found themselves without an affordable health insurance option. As of January 1, 2023, this will be corrected, and the household may be eligible for tax credits if the cost for the family to enroll is not considered affordable. The state of Washington has also implemented a state subsidy program called Cascade Care Savings which will take effect January 1, 2023. To be eligible, enrollees must have a household income below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), be enrolled on a Cascade Care Silver or Gold plan and be taking advantage of all the federal tax credits available to them. Plan discontinuations, plan mapping & network changes:

Ambetter Coordinated Care will be discontinuing 8 health plans in 2023. Most people enrolled on these plans for 2022 will be automatically mapped to a comparable Cascade Care plan with the same carrier. While the Ambetter Essential Care $0 Medical Deductible plan is continuing for 2023, some people that qualify for additional subsidy under Cascade Care Savings will be mapped to the Ambetter Cascade Silver plan. Review your renewal to confirm your 2023 enrollment and that you are happy with that plan selection. LifeWise will be discontinuing Cascade Care plans in multiple counties. The plan mapping for anyone enrolled in those counties will result in a change to the provider network. We encourage anyone enrolled on a LifeWise Cascade plan outside of Jefferson County take special note of the provider network. 



Regence Blue Shield will be discontinuing their UW Medicine and MultiCare Connected Care Accountable Health Networks. Anyone enrolled on these plans will be mapped to a similar plan using the Individual & Family Network. These plans were only available to residents of King and Pierce counties. They are also discontinuing the in-exchange HSA qualified plan, though they will continue to offer their off-exchange HSA qualified plan. Anyone enrolled on the in-exchanged HSA qualified plan will be automatically mapped to the Regence Cascade Bronze. More information is available on the OEP page on our website.
