AASSP Region 8
Principal of The Year for 2023 is awarded to Mat-Su School District Principal

Jennifer Schmidt-Hutchins
Fronteras Charter School Principal named AASSP Region 8 Principal of The Year for 2023.
Fronteras Charter School Principal Jennifer Schmidt-Hutchins has been named Alaska Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP) Region 8 Principal of The Year for 2023. Principal Schmidt-Hutchins has served Fronteras Charter School in the Mat-Su School District for 12 years.

AASSP sponsors regional and statewide Principal of The Year recognition awards to honor the educational leaders who play such a pivotal role in student success. They may be nominated by anyone – students, staff, parents, district office staff or principal peers - with awards finalized by AASSP members in their region. Regional Principals of The Year are eligible to be in the running for the statewide Alaska Principal of The Year.

Mat-Su Superintendent Dr. Randy Trani shared that, " Schmidt-Hutchins is the driving force behind our Spanish Immersion Charter School. She promotes a rich student environment that produces stellar academic achievement and gifts students with a second language."

A parent shared how Principal Schmidt-Hutchins' leadership is felt inside Fronteras Charter School. "It is evident as you walk down the colorful, language-infused hallways how much thought Ms. Hutchins puts into supporting all aspects of the school."

Dr. Trani said the Mat-Su School District celebrates this honor with Principal Schmidt-Hutchins, "Enhorabuena, director Schmidt-Hutchins, esto es bien merecido!"
Each AASSP 2023 Regional Principal of The Year will be awarded and recognized at the 57th Annual Alaska Principals' Conference, scheduled to be held in Anchorage October 13-14, 2023.
