On Monday, January 15, 2024, The Winston School will be closed as we pay tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., whose dream of a more just and equal society continues to inspire us all. Dr. King's legacy of courage, compassion, and unwavering dedication to civil rights remains a guiding light in our pursuit of a better world.

As we observe this day, let's reflect on the profound impact of his words and actions. Let's commit ourselves to the ongoing work of dismantling prejudice and discrimination in all its forms. Together, we can build a future where justice, unity, and love are the cornerstones of our society.

In this issue: Join us for Sip, Share, and Shape Tomorrow: Coffee and Conversation with our Board President and Head of School, presented by the Parent Association at 8:15 AM on Friday, January 19th, at Darshan Bakery. Fall semester also ends on Friday, January 19; Parent Association Executive Function Parent Training details on Thursday, February 22, announced; Honoring the Past and Shaping the Future Alumni Event announced for Wednesday, March 20; and start planning your Summer for Success at Beacon and Landmark Colleges.

Join us for a hot cup of coffee and pastry on Friday, January 19, at 8:15 AM at Darshan Bakery & Cafe to share your thoughts and concerns and actively participate in shaping the future of our school community with Board President, Laura Cunitz, and Head of School, Mary Sterling-Torretti, who will be leading the discussion, providing insights into our school's vision, goals, and initiatives. The end of the fall semester is on Friday, January 19. It's important to remember that the deadline for completing and submitting any missing assignments is fast approaching. Students, this is your opportunity to ensure your hard work pays off and to wrap up the semester on a strong note. Remember that your dedication and effort will contribute to your overall academic success and we are here to support you in reaching your goals.

Is your student struggling with executive function and self-regulation skills? By parent request, The Winston School is hosting an evening event focused on providing realistic tools to enhance your student's skills. Our staff consists of experts in this field, including Assistant Head of School, Kelsey Garrison, and Admissions and Special Education Manager, John Weber, who will share their valuable insights.

Executive function and self-regulation skills are mental processes that allow individuals to plan, focus attention, remember instructions, and manage multiple tasks effectively. These skills are vital for filtering distractions, setting priorities, achieving goals, and controlling impulses, similar to how an air traffic control system manages airport traffic.

Join us on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 5:00 - 6:00 PM at The Winston School. Click the image above or the link here to RSVP.

We are thrilled to invite all alums to join us for a special event that celebrates our rich history and looks ahead to the exciting future of The Winston School. Mark your calendars for the Honoring the Past and Shaping the Future Alumni Event, scheduled for Wednesday, March 20, from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. This event is an excellent opportunity to renew old friendships, provide your input on the new campus plans, and support this exciting effort.

Let's come together to celebrate our achievements and embrace the promising future! Click here to let us know that you’re coming! Any questions, please contact news@thewinstonschool.org.
