From our Board Chair

Musical chairs

Did you ever play musical chairs as a kid? You know, where the music plays and you all march around a group of chairs but there’s one less chair than the number of marching children, and you know that the music will stop suddenly, there’ll be a mad scramble for chairs, and someone is gonna be left standing?

Well, this coming week will be like musical chairs at APC, except there’ll be seats enough for us all. My last day as your Board Chair is this Wednesday, January 31. That’s when the music stops, so to speak.

On Thursday I join the APC staff as your chief advocacy officer. That same day, my friend Joe Navarra of Woodbury, NY, will become APC board chair and my also-friend Michelle Moser of Mount Vernon, Wash., will become chair-elect. Like I said, seats for us all.

I’ve been part of APC for quite a few years and via my volunteer roles, I’ve fallen in love with our alliance. I believe deeply that APC’s work makes a difference for your patients and your compounding practice. I can’t say that I foresaw ever joining the staff, but the opportunity – in the form of funding by the board and an invitation from CEO Scott Brunner – has come along at the right time.

I’m excited about what’s ahead – including focusing entire days on working to elevate our profession, rather than squeezing it in amid my former pharmacy role.

As APC’s advocacy work goes, our scope is broadening and our depth is expanding. We’ll be building and strengthening our relationships with FDA, USP, state boards of pharmacy, and other stakeholders. I’m eager to join a staff team that works day-in and day-out to protect our reputation as compounding professionals.

My time as a board member and an Executive Committee member has been rewarding. Thank you to the entire Board of Directors for allowing me to be your partner and colleague.

One song is ending, and I’m grabbing a new chair. I can’t wait to get to work for you.

– Tenille

Tenille Davis, PharmD, RPh, FAPC, is pharmacist-in-charge at Civic Center Pharmacy in Scottsdale, Arizona (for now). You can reach her at tenille@civiccenterpharmacy.com until January 31. We'll let you know her new email address when she starts at APC in February.

This week's news

APC responds to CVM environmental scan request

APC has submitted responses to an environmental scan request from FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM). This feedback is intended to provide perspective and allow the agency to address weaknesses. It is essential, CVM says, as enforcement of GFI #256 continues to roll out in 2024.

We sent along several suggestions, including increasing transparency around moving nominated bulk drug substances to the positive or negative lists, requiring animal drug manufacturers to include excipients on their product labeling, and developing a robust veterinary drug shortage site to parallel the one for human drugs.

Calling all owners and managers: You don't want to miss this.

We’re doing something new for this year’s Owner Summit: Sign up by February 15 and we’ll knock $300 off your registration cost. Held April 4-6 in sunny La Jolla, California, Owner Summit is the professional development event of the year for compounding pharmacy and facility owners and managers.

With more than 30 presenters in two dozen sessions focused on pharmacy care, pain points, and profitability, you’re guaranteed to go home with dozens of ideas to try out in your compounding practice. Space is limited to the first 150 owners and managers who register, so claim your spot early.

That’s not the only new thing this year, though. Join us April 4 for the inaugural APC OneFund Golf Tournament Fundraiser and play where the pros play—on the world-renowned Torrey Pines golf course. Participation is capped at 40 players, and you must pre-register by March 22 to secure your spot.

Are you throwing away $5,000 a month?

If you haven’t joined APC’s group purchasing deal with Worldpay, you might be throwing away money. Jack Korbutov, owner of The Art of Medicine in Philly, was the first APC PFM to take the leap of faith last month. This month, he reached out to let us know how it’s going:

“Like most owners would be, I was nervous about a processor switch. The thought of handing over where my revenue was handled in hopes of saving a couple hundred dollars seemed daunting. I was very wrong. Approximately $5k in savings per month wrong! THANK YOU, APC!”

APC partnered with The Processing Brokerage to negotiate the best credit card processing rates for our industry. Best of all, the buying group plan gets even lower in price as more pharmacies participate.

The deal is available only to APC Pharmacy/Facility Members. For more information on the GPO—or on becoming a PFM—reach out to Jason Dunn at jason@a4pc.org.
