~ Today marks what would have been beloved science and English teacher Mr. Hartt's birthday, a day when we come together to celebrate his memory and his impact on us all.
In honor of Mr. Hartt's unique and unforgettable style, we encourage everyone to wear their favorite Converse or tennis shoes, cargo shorts, or even a baseball cap (worn backward!) on this special day. His favorite color was Kelly green. We invite you to come together as a community to remember the incredible teacher he was and the positive influence he had on all our lives.

| | Beginning Monday, February 5th, breakfast service before school will be discontinued due in part to late buses impacting the schedule. Instead, free breakfast items will be available during the 9:55 AM break. Kindly arrange for your student to have breakfast at home before school or pack nutritious snacks in their backpack. This change is also intended to discourage eating in classrooms and promote a clean classroom environment. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to provide the best possible experience for our students. | | |
As we are early in the new semester, we want to remind everyone about our school's policy regarding the student use of cell phones and smartwatches during school hours.
At The Winston School, we have a longstanding policy prohibiting cell phones and, more recently, smartwatches on campus. This policy is in place for several important reasons:
-
Minimizing Distractions: Cell phones and smartwatches in the classroom can be a significant distraction, hindering students' ability to focus on their lessons and academic tasks.
-
Promoting Engagement: We believe in fostering an environment where students are fully engaged in their learning experiences and have meaningful interactions with their peers and teachers.
-
Encouraging Face-to-Face Communication: We encourage students to engage in face-to-face conversations during breaks and lunch, fostering social interactions that promote friendship and camaraderie.
To ensure the continued success of this policy, we kindly ask for your cooperation and support:
- Please remind your student to leave their cell phone and smartwatch at home or keep them turned off and stored in their backpack during school hours.
-
In an emergency, parents and guardians can always reach the school office and we will make sure that the message is promptly delivered to the student.
We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining a focused, safe, and respectful learning environment at The Winston School.

Have you secured your spot yet? Does your child struggle with executive function and self-regulation skills? At parents' request, The Winston School is organizing an evening event on campus on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 5:00 - 6:00 PM to equip your child with practical tools to enhance these crucial skills. Our team comprises experts in this field, including Kelsey Garrison, the Assistant Head of School, and John Weber, the Admissions and Special Education Manager, who will share their invaluable insights.
Executive function and self-regulation skills are cognitive processes that enable individuals to plan, concentrate, remember instructions, and effectively juggle multiple tasks. These skills play a fundamental role in filtering out distractions, establishing priorities, achieving objectives, and exercising impulse control.
