Facts, Figures and Resource Partners

Tim Gibbs, 4CED CEO

New Mexico's Economic Development Department is a 4CED Force Multiplier. Releases State Economic Development Plan Update.

Economic development success is strongly correlated with the strength and variety of an economic development organization’s (EDO) resource partners.

For 4CED, resource partners are “force multipliers” because they share similar goals and help identify new development and work force opportunities. The  State of New Mexico Economic Development Department (NMEDD) is one such resource partner.

A very tangible example of the NMEDD’s support for 4CED is the annual $40,000 grant the NMEDD makes to 4CED because last year 4CED took steps to become a State of New Mexico credentialed EDO. This dependable funding is a vital component of 4CED’s operating budget.

Beyond funding though, NMEDD offerings directly support local San Juan County businesses like PESCO with job training funds and 4CED with its national-level marketing program.  (Contact 4CED if your company is interested in NMEDD's workforce training and development investment support.)

Updated NMEDD Plan and New State Law Provides Roadmap for Further 4CED Support

Recently the NMEDD updated the State of New Mexico’s economic development plan. The plan highlights future priorities that will accelerate statewide economic development. Click here to read the NMEDD plan update.

One such planning priority is cataloging “ready-to-go” industrial and manufacturing sites. A new state law signed by Governor Lujan Grisham (SB 169 The Strategic Economic Development Site Readiness Act) supports the effort by establishing the formal statewide framework and dedicated funding. 4CED is working with the NMEDD to make San Juan County’s contributions to the site catalog and 4CED recently attended a large, regional gathering of industrial site locators to spread the word on the business friendly opportunities of San Juan County.

The cataloging work itself is being done in partnership with the City of Farmington Economic Development Department and San Juan County. Having a catalog of ready-to-go sites will help 4CED quickly respond to outside inquiries. Importantly, the 2022 Competitive Asset Assessment conducted by Diane Lupke and Associates identified the lack of ready-to-go industrial sites as a critical gap limiting San Juan County’s growth.

If you know of an available large industrial or manufacturing “site-ready” parcel in San Juan County that you would like to have placed in the statewide catalog or on the 4CED Available Properties web page or both please contact Scott Bird at (505) 566-3702.

San Juan College Offering New Workforce Development Program at No Cost to Employers

San Juan College, like the NMEDD, is another key resource partner. Recently San Juan College’s Center for Workforce Development announced a new workforce training initiative that can offer tuition-free work skill training to San Juan County employers. Check out the flyer below for more details.
