Mr. Arsenio Richardson ~

Greetings Susan Lindgren School Community,

Spring is finally here, and with it many exciting opportunities to gather and celebrate our learners and community. As you look over our calendar below and consider which opportunities might work with your schedule, you will see that Susan Lindgren's fifth grade class is preparing for Exhibition.

The International Baccalaureate Exhibition is a significant event in the Primary Years Programme (PYP). Exhibition represents a culminating experience for students in their fifth grade year of the PYP. It is an opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and understanding of the PYP framework, which emphasizes inquiry-based learning, transdisciplinary themes, and the development of key skills and attitudes.

As each student's inquiry-based project benefits from support and primary resources, Exhibition is also an opportunity for community members to partner with our fifth graders. If you are interested in volunteering to support our fifth grade students with their Exhibition research and project completion, please reach out to Kara Bancroft , Carmen Baysinger and Cindy Blumer (SL fifth grade teachers) to learn more.

We look forward to seeing you here at Susan Lindgren!

Schoolyard Garden Update

Spring is here! April showers bring May flowers AND outdoor garden sessions. They start next week on April 30. Our first week's theme is "Soils" and to go along with our theme, we're having a compost delivery from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community Organics Recycling Facility. Our school community participates in the organics collection and because of this, our school will receive a free delivery of compost.

A few weeks ago classes started seeds and we have lots of seedlings growing tall to put into our garden beds over the month of May.

We also planted seeds OUTSIDE with a 5th grade and Kindergarten Buddy classes - which brings me to:

Garden tip of the week: It seems early to plant outside but there are seeds and plants that like the cool weather. We started beets, lettuces, kales, and radishes. These are considered "cool weather" crops and grow best in the early spring and late fall. Plant outside now for harvesting in late May and early June.

Happy planting!

Strategic Plan Focus Groups

St. Louis Park Public Schools is building its next 5-year strategic plan (2025–2030), and we need your input to ensure it reflects the lived experiences of all families.

While we’ve received valuable input from many community members, we recognize the critical importance of including more perspectives from our Black, Asian, and Indigenous families.

PINK Consulting, LLC invites Black, Asian, and Indigenous families to participate in a confidential focus group to share how the last strategic plan—centered on racial equity—impacted you and your student(s).

Superintendent Dr. Carlondrea Hines Asks Our Students the Big Questions… with the Tiniest Mic

If you haven’t caught Dr. Hines’ tiny mic interviews yet, you’re missing out! 🎤 The series features candid moments and big insights from our students. Recently, Dr. Hines stopped by Junior Achievement, where 4th graders from Peter Hobart and SLP High School students ran a full-on mock city. Then on National Kindergarten Day, she visited Aquila Elementary to chat with our youngest learners.

Let’s just say—when the tiny mic’s out, the good times roll!

Celebrating Volunteers

April is National Volunteer Month, and we’re so grateful for the amazing volunteers in our district! Volunteers are the heart of our community, making a powerful impact on students, teachers, and everyone they support. Their dedication helps create a lasting, positive change that echoes throughout our district. To celebrate National Volunteer Week (April 20–26), we’re hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast with delicious food, great company, and special giveaways, just a small thank you for all the work they do!
