| Friends and Colleagues, We are pleased to offer this Civil War era “doc in a box”. This past Fall when I got my annual flu shot, covid update, etc. I did not go to the office regular doctor, I went instead to the local drugstore, otherwise known as “doc in a box”. It’s quick, easy and efficient. And it’s close to the pet supply store, the grocery store, and the liquor store. What more could you want! Flash back over 150 years to a battlefield in the American Civil War. Wounds, infections and diseases were rampant on both sides. Contagious diseases spread rapidly. The word “germ” was unknown. Cleanliness was not a factor in treatment. Opium was widely used, and morphine. quinine, Epsom salts, castor oil, and lots of alcohol – whiskey, brandy sherry, and the like. Perhaps it is not surprising that an opioid epidemic followed the war. All opiates have been removed! Cheers, Nick | | |
