2024 HFQF Annual Meeting Highlights

This year’s Annual Meeting of the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation was held via Zoom on Saturday afternoon, November 2 from 2:00 pm – 3:15 pm. The agenda included reviewing minutes, financial statements, and committee highlights. The meeting also covered updates on the organization’s Bylaws, strategic plan, and board nominations, a preview of the upcoming basketball season and membership marketing efforts. Lastly, the HFQF President Valerie Goodwin-Colbert shared about another film project, and potential collaborations with the new Wayland President Donna Hedgepath.

Here's a quick hit of the highlights:

Project/Committee Highlights

• The Heritage Committee continues fundraising efforts on phase 2 for the Flying Queens Museum. To date more than $61,000 has been raised with a goal to raise an additional $60,000 by the end of 2024. Current projects include erection of a sign & lighting for the plane and digitization of recently discovered VHS game tapes. Marsha Sharp and Cathy Wilson gave new Wayland President Donna Hedgepath a tour of the museum.

The Naismith weekend honoring Coach Harley Redin and subsequent 18 for 18 campaign recognizing his induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame was a memorable time for the party of about 50 people who attended. A highlight for many was a luncheon hosted by Linda and Ben Price where former players and others enjoyed sharing stories and laughter!

• The 18 for 18 Campaign raised $32,563, almost doubling the original goal of $18,000. Fundraising for the museum endowment continues with grant proposals and a letter explaining planned giving.

• The HFQF Golf Tournament, held in Lubbock, Texas and netted $14,280.13. Tourney chair Kathy Booth Loter will explore moving the tournament to Plainview in 2025. The community is familiar with a Flying Queens tournament from previous years, which will help with corporate sponsorships.

• The 2025-2027 Strategic Plan has expanded into two parts: an organizational plan and a museum plan. Both feature strategies addressing fundraising and engaging former players and the public. The museum plan also addresses strategies for the continued development of the museum artifacts and other memorabilia.
