Your Monthly Message from Principal Herman...

Hello Eagle Families!
Get ready for the hustle and bustle of the last few month of the school year--prom, senior scholarship night, graduation... it is all getting very real for those of you who are senior parents, isn't it?!
We sent several students to the Students of Color Career Conference this past month, our Diversity Club hosted a Culture Night that brought visiting performers from Mount Vernon High School (we can't wait to have them back!) and this week will bring us our Skilled Trades Fair on the AHS campus. Also headed out way... our Percussion Ensemble will compete at state, our Anatomage team competition is coming up at Nationals, and athletes in track, softball, baseball, soccer, tennis and golf are hitting the fields in full force...
So many opportunities...and so many kids jumping into them head first! I love seeing our Eagles embrace the possibilities.
As you scroll through this month's newsletter, please note the Annual School Performance Report for Arlington High School.

The following is some public service information from the Arlington School District Office Public Information Department that may be of use to you:
Cyber Kidnapping cases on the rise in Western Washington
Cyber Kidnapping is not actual, physical kidnapping, but a scam to extort money from victims, and there have been several cases in Western Washington schools recently. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently released a bulletin warning of an increase in so-called “cyber-kidnapping” cases nationwide.
What happens is, the caller claims to have kidnapped a loved one and says they will hurt them if a ransom is not paid. They then demand payment through the purchase of gift cards or a wire transfer. The FBI states these calls typically target those whose first language is not English. The calls are usually from another area code and are not from the “victim’s” phone. The callers go to great lengths to keep you on the phone so that you cannot call your loved one and/or law enforcement.
The following is guidance for those who find themselves in this situation:
- Stay calm
- Ask to speak to the “victim” directly
- Have a family safe word that is not easily discovered
- Ask the caller to answer questions only the “victim” would know
- Use alternative methods to contact the “victim”
- Report the incident to law enforcement

Food Services: You may notice that the portal for making online payments to your student's food service account looks a little different this year. We're now using TouchBase for processing these payments, and if you already have a TouchBase login you're ready to sign in and make payments. If you don't have a login it will take just a few minutes to set it up. Please go to wa-arlington.intouchreceipting.com and follow the instructions to create your password (your username is the same one you use for Skyward Family Access). Automatic payments that were set up in the old system will not carry forward. Online payments are not posted to food service accounts in real time, but they are updated several times throughout the day and should be reflected in the account balance no later than 7:30 am the following day.

We compete against other schools in Northwest Washington State and meet once a week for friendly, high-spirited competitions, complete with buzzer bars. Character Strong - It Takes All of US!
|
|
The Family Character Dare of the Month is...
|
|
For our teens, our Weekly Character Dare is generally posted in the Commons, but we also share it on social media via @AHSFlyEaglesFly (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) where we have over 6,000 subscribers who can view these dares daily. By working on these dares together and talking about them, we grow closer and more connected. The kids get this opportunity together in Friday's Every Eagle Advisory. The Staff have Weekly Dares too! The more WE do as adults, the more THEY do as kids. Family Dares simply tie it all together... here's Character Strong's C.A.R.E approach! It's a fun, simple approach to building Every Eagle's Commitment, Patience, Humility, Selflessness, Kindness, Respect, Honesty and Forgiveness - traits that lead to success beyond AHS. Enjoy your monthly Family Dares!
