2024 Beaver Creek Uphill and Skimo Racer Details

KICK OFF THE 2024 BLOCH & CHAPLEAU WINTER RACING SEASON!

The Vail Recreation District is kicking off the 2024 Bloch & Chapleau winter races with a NEW event in Beaver Creek, Colorado! Join us for the 2024 Beaver Creek Uphill & Skimo Race. Choose between the uphill (only the ascent is timed) or skimo (both the ascent and descent are timed) options.

COURSE & PARKING MAP

RACE CATEGORIES

Uphill ski, Uphill splitboard, Uphill non-ski/splitboard, Skimo (up and down), Boardmo (up and down).


Racers may use any means to get up the mountain (snowshoes, skis, splitboards or winter running devices). Skis or a snowboard are required to compete in the skimo competition. Skimo competitors must also have a helmet and metal edges, which are both required for the descent.

RACE DESCRIPTION

Starting at 7 a.m., participants will ascend approximately 2,100 vertical feet from the base of Beaver Creek to Spruce Saddle Lodge.


Please note: Due to planned snowmaking operations on Centennial, the uphill course will now take racers up Latigo. The downhill route will take racers down Gold Dust. The course is subject to change based on grooming, snow conditions and snowmaking operations.


The Centennial chairlift will be available for uphill-only participants to download when they are finished.

Extra clothing can be stored in the Powder 8 Kitchen & Tap restaurant at the base of Beaver Creek.

FRIDAY BIB PICKUP & DAY-OF REGISTRATION

Pre-race bib pickup will take place on Friday, Jan. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cripple Creek Backcountry in Avon.


Cost for this race is $42 week-of/$50 day-of for adults and $30 week-of/$37 day-of for students.


Online registration at vailrec.com/register will close at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5. Day-of registration and bib pick-up takes place at Powder 8 Kitchen & Tap in Beaver Creek Village from 6 to 6:50 a.m.


To save you time at bib pickup, please print and sign this Vail Resorts liability waiver ahead of time and bring it with you to the race!


Please note that there is no series registration, only individual race registration.

Free parking is available at Avon Elementary School. From there, it is a short walk to catch the Beaver Creek shuttle from the Bear Lot.


Please make sure you give yourself enough time to get to the race start via shuttle!


Racers can also park in the paid Elk or Bear Lots and take the free shuttle up, or (space allowing) park in the garages located in Beaver Creek Village. Daily parking rates apply.

WEATHER


According to wunderground.com, the forecast for Saturday morning in Beaver Creek predicts a temperature of around 17º with a chance of snow at the start of the races. Please dress appropriately for the conditions.


The course and start times may vary based on weather.

AWARDS AND GOODIES

Show your bib in Powder 8 Kitchen & Tap after the race for a complimentary breakfast burrito and warm drink.


Awards will be given to the top three finishers by category/age/gender. Age groups are: 19 & under; 20-39; 40-59; 60+.


All racers will be automatically entered into a prize giveaway. Awards ceremony and prize giveaway will take place in Powder 8 following the race.
