2024 Budget Adopted

The Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted the 2024 budget at its regularly scheduled meeting on December 19. The budget keeps tax rates steady at 3.2 mills.

The budget includes funding for improvements at Mermaid and Wissahickon Parks, the continued renovations and expansion of the Public Works garage, and improvements to traffic signals.

A $5 per month increase to residential sewer rates was also approved at the meeting, along with a corresponding increase to commercial rates. The increase will begin in the second quarter of 2024.

Sewer rates were last increased five years ago. A variety of issues contribute to the need for a rate change including increases in treatment costs and increases in vehicle and equipment prices.

Supervisor Michele Minnick Honored

Retiring Supervisor Michele Minnick was recognized at the Board of Supervisors’ meeting on December 19.

“Over the last six years, Michele helped lead our Township with compassion, calmness, and a steadfast dedication to our residents,“ said Board Chair Scott Badami. “Michele got into local government for all the right reasons. While my fellow Supervisors and I will miss her voice on our Board, we are pleased she will still be just down the street in Whitpain where we can still seek her wise counsel.”

Michele was initially sworn in as a Supervisor in January 2018 and served on numerous subcommittees while guiding the Township as Board Chair in 2020 and in 2021.

Over the course of her service to the Township, Michele’s hard work led to numerous accomplishments including the acquisition of Mermaid Park, continued historic preservation, and continued work on improving walkability. She accomplished all of this while leading the Township during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deer Management Pilot Program To Take Place At Armentrout Preserve

As part of the Township’s Deer Management Pilot Program, approved archery hunters may be in Armentrout Preserve from December 26 to January 27, which is Pennsylvania’s late archery season.

Signs on this program will be posted in Armentrout Preserve. Hunters and hikers can safely spend time together on the preserve. Archery hunters are most likely to be in the preserve during the hours near dawn and dusk. All preserve visitors must follow Township rules and ordinances when using the preserve. This includes making sure dogs are on leashes.

The Township’s Deer Management Pilot Program was started to help protect the health and diversity of the ecosystem in the preserve.

Please call the Township Building at 610-277-2400 with any questions about the program.

Leaf Collection On December 26, 27

Leaves will be collected on December 26 for residents who live on the south side of Skippack Pike and December 27 for residents on the north side of Skippack Pike.

The Public Works Department reminds residents that leaves must be bagged for collection and not raked to the curb. The Township's collection process does not involve vacuum trucks that clean up piles of loose leaves. Leaf piles cause safety issues, clog storm drains and block street sweeping.

Board Of Supervisors' Reorganization Meeting Set For January 2

The Board of Supervisors annual reorganization meeting is January 2 at 6 p.m.

Recycle Holiday Lights

Thanks to residents who are dropping off broken or non-working string lights to the collection bin at the Police Department Lobby. Lights will be collected through January 30.

Rather than recycling or throwing away working holiday lights, please consider donating them to East Norriton’s Goodwill or a similar charity.

Check out the EAC’s brochure of Waste Reduction Tips for a list of local organizations and businesses that accept various items for recycling.

From The EAC: Tackling Holiday Waste

How can we reduce the stream of garbage this holiday season?

Consider services, tickets, gift cards, dining experiences, crafts, and second-hand treasures as your go-to gifts.

Rethink gift wrapping. Swap single-use paper for fabric like bandannas, dishtowels, scarves. Save and reuse ribbons instead of contributing to the landfill with disposable ones. Get creative with paper – reuse, repurpose, and make every wrap count.

And when it comes to holiday gatherings, ditch the disposable serving ware. Opt for your own dishes, flatware and glassware.

It's these small, intentional choices that collectively make a difference.
