CAP Grantee Feature

Yen Ospina

is a passionate Colombian-American multidisciplinary artist, who has made significant contributions to Tompkins County arts and communities.

Her most recent project is through her nomadic Orozco Gallery. Present Conversations II, a group exhibit highlighting emerging BIPOC local artists is at our CAP ArtSpace through November 27th. Don't miss it!

(Four artist talks from this exhibit will be held in the evenings of November 6th, 13th, 14th, and 20th. Details are on our CAP ArtSpace page and Yen's Orozco Gallery's Instagram.)

Yen has received multiple grants from CAP in 2024: the Artist in Community Grant for this exhibit, an SOS Grant both for this exhibit and a new serious of her work, "Surrealismo de Ensueño," that was exhibited at the MIX Art Gallery, as well as a GAP Grant for her annual October Heritage Fiesta that celebrates Hispanic/Latine culture in Tompkins County.

She is also the newly appointed president of the Latino Civic Association, which received a GAP Grant for their annual Heritage month celebrations.

Visit Yen's website at YenOspina.com to see her studio work that blends traditional and digital mediums to create works rich in storytelling and cultural resonance that draws inspiration from folklore, etchings, and lithographs,

In her traditional abstract paintings, Yen shifts focus inward, using the medium to express personal emotions and introspection, contrasting the storytelling nature of her digital work.

Yen is also an accomplished muralist, having painted over seven murals throughout the Ithaca area!

Yen has fully embraced a life of creative exploration, community-building, and cultural storytelling and continues to uplift marginalized voices in our communities. For this reason, she is a 2024 recipient (along with Caleb Thomas of Ithaca Murals) of CAP's Community Arts Catalysts award for making a big impact on our community through the arts! Thank you Yen!
