Chapter President's Message
May 19th marks the beginning of National Public Works Week with the theme this year of “Advancing Quality of Life for All”. Whether knowingly or not, Public Works employees impact the daily lives of every person in our community every day. Thank you all for your continued dedication and effort.
Last week, I had the pleasure to meet with local Assembly members and Senators to advocate for matters directly impacting AWPA at the Legislative Day in Sacramento. It was inspiring to have a hand in the wheels of government. On behalf of APWA NorCal, I also presented the Project of the Year and Manager of the Year awards to the City of Concord at their City Council meeting. We do not celebrate our successes often enough. It was rewarding to share Concord’s success with their Council and local residents. Additionally, I witnessed the presentations and award of scholarships to local high schoolers through the ACE Mentorship Program. It was a busy week with so many examples of how our industry does strive to do exactly that, advance the quality of life for all!
There continue to be numerous opportunities to get involved with APWA NorCal, and we can all do so much if we each do just a little. We have upcoming luncheons, educational seminars, a golf tournament, a bocce tournament and staff awards all coming up soon. I hope each one of you is able to participate, and even volunteer, to help make each one of these events a great success.
