Billy Francis, the Executive Director, offered his perspective on the significance and impact of the 2nd Annual Arizona Workforce Summit

The Arizona Office of Economic Opportunity Workforce Summit 2024 was an incredible two days filled with learning, collaboration, and inspiration!

Day 1 kicked things off with insightful opening remarks and inspiring stories from Northern Arizona participants and employers.

The "Flagstaff Focus" session provided a deep dive into our community's unique workforce landscape, while the afternoon sessions tackled critical issues like reimagining corrections for workforce engagement and the impact of Arizona's childcare crisis.

A special shoutout to Joy Cone Co and Katalyst Space Technologies for joining us and expressing their appreciation for the collaborative through the Incumbent Worker Training program with the ARIZONA@WORK Coconino County Workforce Board. Thank you as well to our Coconino County Arizona Bord of Supervisors, Lena Fowler and Jeronimo Vasquez for attending the event and serving on our Workforce Panels.

Special thank you to the City of Flagstaff’s Economic Vitality Division and Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association for sponsoring the networking reception at the Mother Road Brewery.

Day 2 offered even more valuable insights as we had the privilege learned about the crucial role of the State Workforce Development Board from NAWB CEO Brad Turner-Little, and gained a deeper understanding of Governor Hobbs' BuildItAZ initiative from Stacey Faulkner. Trends and Transformations in Tourism highlighted Discover Flagstaff, Lowell Observatory, Arizona Lodging and Tourism Association, and Ascend Capital Management that owns and operates 8 hotels and 4 restaurants in Coconino.

This entire event was a testament to the collaborative spirit driving Northern Arizona's workforce development efforts. It was inspiring to network with like-minded champions who not only understand the unique needs of their local areas but are actively working to make Arizona a place where economic vitality thrives.

Huge thanks to my Board Chair Bruce Sobczak and Board Members Beth Caplin, John Saltonstall, Valerie Kelly  , and Julie Pastrick for their support throughout the summit!

Here's to a continued focus on building a thriving workforce for Arizona!

A Letter from One-Stop Operator

The program and fiscal year is coming to an end, and it's incredible to think that we will soon be starting a new year! It has been a pleasure for the interim One-Stop Operator to get to know the program managers and program staff over the past few weeks. There are many staff who have a strong desire to serve those who are in need in Coconino County. Opportunities to provide enhanced customer service continue to be identified, and plans are being made to address these issues...most of which have been identified by partner program staff. Thanks to those who have helped identify ways we can make the workforce system work better and being willing to help by being part of the solution. As you see problems or suggestions about how we could make the workforce system work better, please feel free to reach out to Tyson Knudsen at tyson.knudsen@cplc.org

As we move into a new program year, we look forward to continue building relationships and come together as one as ARIZONA@WORK Coconino County and provide the best experience possible for those seeking our services.

Also, we are pleased to announce that a permanent One-Stop Operator has been identified and will start the second week of July!
