BC Exceeds State Standards on 2024 LRC | |
Dear Bloom-Carroll Community,
The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce released the 2024 Ohio School Report Cards this week. I am honored to share that the Bloom-Carroll Local School District has earned an impressive overall rating of 4.5 stars!
Schools and districts across Ohio are rated from 1 to 5 stars in half-star increments. Our rating reflects our performance in five key components:
• Achievement
• Progress
• Gap Closing
• Early Literacy
• Graduation
We either met (“3”), exceeded (“4”), or significantly exceeded (“5”) the state standard in all these areas. The majority of this data is based on our students' performance on Ohio’s State Tests administered last spring. While the report card is an important measure of our success, it’s just one part of Bloom-Carroll’s story.
I’m pleased to share that BCLSD earned a “5 Star” rating in the Early Literacy Component. It’s important to note that only 9.1% (55) of school districts in Ohio earned a “5 Star” rating in the Early Literacy Component. Furthermore, just 169 out of 607 districts across Ohio received a “4.5 Star” rating or higher overall.
Our achievements are the result of a collaborative effort. I want to thank all our students, parents, teachers, support staff, directors, coordinators, supervisors, administrators, Board of Education members, and the community for their dedication. Every one of you plays a vital role in the success of our school system, much of which is not fully captured in the report card.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our students.
Go Bulldogs!
Shawn Haughn
Superintendent

BCHS INVOLVEMENT FAIR
Bloom-Carroll High School recently hosted its annual BCHS Involvement Fair, offering students the chance to explore a wide variety of clubs and organizations in which they can get involved this school year.
During lunch periods, representatives from different clubs and organizations set up booths and handed out information to encourage students to get involved. The event aimed to help students find activities that match their interests, fostering a sense of community and engagement within the school.
Getting involved in extracurricular activities provides numerous benefits, including improved academic performance, the development of personal passions, and the opportunity to strengthen teamwork and leadership skills—all essential for success in school and beyond.
With a diverse range of clubs, including the Spanish Club, FFA, Chess Club, and even a Ping-Pong Club, there’s something for everyone at BCHS.

6TH GRADERS WILL VISIT THE MOTTS MILITARY MUSEUM
Next week, sixth graders at Bloom-Carroll Middle School will expand their classroom learning with a field trip to the Motts Military Museum in Groveport, Ohio. The visit is designed to complement their study of the book Ground Zero by Alan Gratz, which provides a narrative about the events of September 11, 2001.
The novel study has allowed students to understand the significance of that day in American history, and the museum trip will provide them a tangible connection to the events they've been reading about and foster critical thinking about themes such as courage, sacrifice, and resilience.

JIM "BASKETBALL" JONES INSPIRES KINDNESS
This past week our elementary students had an incredible experience with the legendary Jim "Basketball" Jones! As an author and motivational speaker, Mr. Jones travels nationwide, inspiring students and staff with his impressive basketball skills and powerful message about kindness, inclusion, and supporting classmates everyday.
He emphasized that kindness isn't just a one-time act but a habit that can transform our school environment. He encouraged every student to “Do Something Kind” and to take steps to ensure everyone feels included and valued. Whether it's inviting someone to play at recess, sharing a kind word, or simply being a good listener, his message highlighted the impact of small acts of kindness.
