Fix a Leak Week
Looking for water savings opportunities? Target leaks first! Join Monte Vista Water District in chasing down leaks for EPA’s Fix a Leak Week (March 18 – 24, 2024).
On average, leaks can account for more than 6% of a business facility’s total water use. Leaks and continuously running water may not be visible, but the water waste can lead to high water and energy bills. Did you know that just one dripping faucet could waste 3,000 gallons of water per month in your facility? Start saving today by incorporating leak detection into your operations and maintenance efforts. Encourage employees to help find and fix leaks by posting signs in restrooms and kitchen or breakroom areas that encourage everyone to look for and report leaks. EPA’s “Fight Leaks and Water Waste in your Facility with WaterSense” checklist is a great tool to track and identify water waste! EPA’s WaterSense also provides graphic tools such as bathroom stall stickers to help spread the word.
While MVWD will provide tips and information during Fix a Leak Week, consider sharing information with employees or hosting an event at your facility to find leaks and report water waste. Include leak detection and reporting information in regular staff trainings as well. Don’t forget to share information with housekeeping, maintenance, and landscaping staff as well as tenants. Catching and fixing leaks early will reduce water waste. Fix a Leak Week is a great reminder to practice leak-checking habits year-round.
More information can be found at www.epa.gov/watersense/fix-leak-week. Have questions or need additional resources? MVWD staff are ready to help and can be reached at (909) 267-2130 or waterwise@mvwd.org.
