Your Monthly Message from Principal Herman...
|
Hello Eagle Families,
Happy May!
Senior parents, please make sure that you read through the newsletter this month for pertinent senior information. Also, be sure to check out the senior schedule on our website so that your senior is able to be involved in all these great end-of-year activities.
For all families, please check out the Chromebook Return Plan in the News You Can Use section of our newsletter. If your student will be joining us at the end of June for credit retrieval through our summer school program, your student will still turn in their Chromebook at the end of the year and will be issued one to use for credit retrieval during the 4 weeks of our summer school program. Please reach out to our counseling department if you have questions about summer school and credit retrieval needs.
Our AHS Eagles continue to inspire with excellence in our Spring athletic programs, performances and competitions in the arts and in our academic programs, and through the three principles they exhibit daily: 1) working hard, 2) being kind, 3) getting involved. We are looking forward to watching and celebrating as our AHS seniors walk across the stage in a few short weeks to accept their diplomas. And we are also looking forward to welcoming over 400 new freshmen in the fall. Each of your students brings something different to enhance the culture at AHS.
I appreciate how you advocate for your student and the support you provide them at home. Thank you for being a part of our AHS community!

Please reach out to your student's admin or counselor with any needs you have!

Our AHS Percussion Ensemble headed to state this past week and competed against 21 other high schools. Their hard work and dedication is going to pay forward into the creation of a Percussion class as a part of our band program in the 2024-2025 school year!
|
Our AHS Eagle Unified Soccer team continues to take victory on the field. Be sure to catch one of their remaining games!
As a reminder, Unified Athletics programs are a partnership between special education and general education students who compete against other schools with the same program. So much fun and a way for Every Eagle to be involved!

With opportunities such as the Skilled Trades fair, our partnership with SnoIsle and our RAP program, we have so many amazing opportunities for students to connect with careers and develop their passions while still attending AHS.

Food Services: You may notice that the portal for making online payments to your student's food service account looks a little different this year. We're now using TouchBase for processing these payments, and if you already have a TouchBase login you're ready to sign in and make payments. If you don't have a login it will take just a few minutes to set it up. Please go to wa-arlington.intouchreceipting.com and follow the instructions to create your password (your username is the same one you use for Skyward Family Access). Automatic payments that were set up in the old system will not carry forward. Online payments are not posted to food service accounts in real time, but they are updated several times throughout the day and should be reflected in the account balance no later than 7:30 am the following day.

We compete against other schools in Northwest Washington State and meet once a week for friendly, high-spirited competitions, complete with buzzer bars. Don't feel like you'll be put on the spot, as we compete in teams and no one is asked questions individually. If you are interested, please contact Mr. Mendro in C114 or at
(ben.mendro@asd16.org) or Mr. Duskin in C116 (chad.duskin@asd16.org). We normally meet on Tuesdays right after school. Bring a friend or two!

"Are you a member or ally of the LGBTQ+ community? Would you like to meet other members of this community in a safe space, hang out, make friends, and talk about LGBTQ+ issues, learn about LGBTQ+ culture and history, and advocate for and support LGBTQ+ students at Arlington High School--with snacks?!
If your answer is yes, then email AHS' LGBTQ+ Club Advisor Mr. Ford at jason.ford@asd16.org for more information or "come join us Wednesdays from 2:30-3:45 in Mr. Ford's room, C208!"

Character Strong - It Takes All of US!
|
|
The Family Character Dare of the Month is...
|
|
For our teens, our Weekly Character Dare is generally posted in the Commons, but we also share it on social media via @AHSFlyEaglesFly (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) where we have over 6,000 subscribers who can view these dares daily. By working on these dares together and talking about them, we grow closer and more connected. The kids get this opportunity together in Friday's Every Eagle Advisory. The Staff have Weekly Dares too! The more WE do as adults, the more THEY do as kids. Family Dares simply tie it all together... here's Character Strong's C.A.R.E approach! It's a fun, simple approach to building Every Eagle's Commitment, Patience, Humility, Selflessness, Kindness, Respect, Honesty and Forgiveness - traits that lead to success beyond AHS. Enjoy your monthly Family Dares!
