WAVES and 2024 Mental Health Summit Featured on Live TV

In honor of AAPI Heritage Month in May, the WRAL news station (CBS local station ) in Raleigh, NC ran a special segment uplifting WAVES' efforts to improve mental health in the AAPI community. Lily Chen was interviewed by WRAL’s Renee Chou to discuss the unique challenges our communities face and the programs WAVES has developed to address these issues. During the interview, Lily also took the opportunity to highlight the upcoming 2024 Chinese American Convention and Mental Health Summit for the audience.

In an important quest for voice and influence in the global Chinese community, Joe Wong, with his unique sense of humor and talent, has become an outstanding representative of this endeavor. Wong, who will take the stage at UCA's 4th National Chinese American Convention, is more than just a comedian, his career and achievements demonstrate the broad influence of Chinese people on the international stage.

Wong's performance "This Asian Hates Asian Hate" at Harvard in February 2024 and "Out of Place" at Yale University in April used humor to deepen listeners' understanding of the Asian American experience and promote cross-cultural empathy and dialogue.

Showcase: Mental Health First Aid Training

大会展台之一：精神健康急救员培训

本届大会上，将会有一个展台专门介绍精神健康急救员培训。（现在即可扫海报里的二维码报名参加这个免费培训！）

UCA WAVES联合 MHACC 在2023年举办了多次“精神健康急救员培训”，该培训是一门以技能为主的认证课程，由美国心理健康委员会管理。

这个培训旨在帮助社区成员了解关心理健康的基本知识，提高他们预防或处理危机的能力，使他们成为自己和亲人的“心理健康监护人”。

The Mental Health First Aid Training Program aims to educate community members about mental health and boost their ability to prevent or handle crises, allowing them to become "mental health guardians" for themselves and their loved ones.

Managed by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, this certification course equips attendees with skills to recognize and respond to crises and substance abuse symptoms. Successful participants earn a globally recognized "MHFA Certificate".

Just like in previous conferences, we'll be hosting the Mental Health Community Showcase, the Chinese Community Organizations Showcase, and the AAPI Youth Organizations Showcase during the event.

This is a rare opportunity for Chinese community organizations, AAPI youth groups, and Chinese mental health organizations to showcase their work, achievements, and events on a national platform, expanding their influence, attracting resources, and seeking growth.

Due to limited space and venue capacity, we can only accommodate 60-70 organization booths. Therefore, we urge organizations from all over to act quickly and fill out the application form to register. The deadline for registration is May 31st.

Organizations participating in the showcase will need to pay a $50 booth fee. The showcase is for nonprofit organizations and youth groups only. For business, please refer to convention sponsorship. We will review the applications submitted and notify everyone promptly about the specific details of participation.

与前几次大会一样，我们将在会议期间举办华裔心理健康组织展示（Mental Health Community Showcase)、华人社区组织展示（Chinese Community Organizations Showcase）、以及亚裔青年组织展示（AAPI Youth Organizations Showcase）。
