Tips for Visiting Someone with Dementia

Dementia is a disease that many people are diagnosed with. One of the symptoms of this disease is that the people who have it can no longer learn new information, remember things after a few minutes, or in some cases remember past information. Every waking moment is a “first” time experience. It is the first time they have met you, every time you come to see them. If their surroundings are not a place where they have lived for a long time, every time they wake up, they are seeing the place for the first time. Remember how you felt when you first woke up in a strange bed or hotel room? Every action, place, and person they meet each day is new to them.

Let's prepare for yourself and learns some tips for visiting someone with dementia.

Podcast on Prescription: Stories of community, connection and hope through social prescribing

Many things that affect our health can’t be fixed by a medical prescription. Like loneliness, isolation, or problems with money, housing or employment.

Social prescribing means connecting you to activities, groups and support that make a difference. From walking groups to debt advice, it’s about what matters to you.

Social prescribing can help you overcome the challenges that are holding you back. It can help you get active, develop confidence, and take control of your health.

How social prescribing can help?

In these bitesize podcast episodes, hosted by Dr Radha, we hear from three people who have benefitted from social prescribing.
