Dear unit leaders and summer camp coordinators,
I hope your 2024 is off to a good start. It's certainly been a cold start for sure which makes thinking about summer camp now a little surreal. However, I wanted to highlight a couple of important changes and key dates.
Here is the biggest news. Through the past several years we have received consistent feedback you all would like to make payments directly into Tentaroo since you are already building your rosters and sign-up for Merit Badges. We are excited to announce that OSR is fully embracing the Tentaroo platform. For those of you that have come to OSR in the past, this is a radical change to the way we handle payments. To help your unit acclimate to the new payment process, Michelle and I will host a ZOOM video meeting on Wednesday, February 7th at 7:00 pm. We will record the meeting and make it available online. You can click HERE to join the Zoom meeting. I will also send out a reminder email on Monday, February 5th.
I wanted to provide some information regarding the summer camp fees. You can access the 2024 fee schedule here. Our fee structure includes two different discount tiers. Each family in your unit could pay a different amount based on when they pay you, and you in turn submit payment to the Washington Crossing Council. Our deepest discounted tier is available through February 29. Let your families know so they can take advantage of this discount.
Similarly it is important for your families to understand Ockanickon's refund policy. It hasn't changed since last year. A PDF version is available HERE. Please make sure your families are aware of the policy to minimize a frustrating conversation in August.
Through the contributions of generous donors, the Council is able to offer a limited number of camperships which can cover up to 50% of the camp fees. The campership application is available here. The deadline for application is April 1. The campership committee meets shortly thereafter to determine award amounts.
We still have several positions available on our summer camp staff. If you have a Scout or Scouter who might be interested in working at Ockanickon, more information and an online application is available here. If you have any questions about specific positions or qualifications, please reach out to me via email.
I also want to alert you that we are in the process of launching a new website on the Tentaroo platform to replace our existing Wordpress site. You can get a sneak peek at the new site at ockanickon.tentaroo.com. In fact, many of you already interacted with the new site when making your deposit, and some of our content is already re-directing to the new site. I hope for the new site to launch in early March. I welcome any feedback.
Lastly, save the date for our online, virtual leaders meeting on Saturday, May 4th. We’ll go over the most up to date program and food service information.
