"Joy and interest will come when we can realise the potentialities that are within us."

- MARIA MONTESSORI -

Hello Vincent,

Every person, regardless of the stage of dementia, possesses unique strengths that can be nurtured to enhance their well-being. Dr. Montessori's approach leverages sensory, motor, social, and cognitive strengths to create engaging and meaningful experiences. By focusing on what individuals can do, we can create opportunities for successful engagement, retain functional ability longer, and enrich daily lives with purpose and joy.

What tools can you use to tap into those strengths this summer? Perhaps our recently refreshed Reading Roundtables® HERE? Or, start with this chart below to discover a person’s skills and match them with an activity or roles that suit their abilities and interests.

American Flag Puzzle

Here’s an activity that encourages intergenerational social interaction and motor skill practice. The instructions describe an American flag, but can be applied to any flag that is meaningful to the person.

Invite participants to gather and create the materials for this activity (for themselves or for others).

Independent Work Station Idea Sheet

Setting up Montessori-based activity stations that align with an individual's interests helps them engage with their environment in a more meaningful way, especially when using cues and templates, considering a person's strengths, and breaking a task into steps.

This season we share with you ideas for inspiration and tips for setting up Independent Work Stations in your home or care community. Large purchases are not necessary: start with what you have already that you can put to use (that applies to both materials as well as abilities available).

Find these and other activity ideas on our Free Resources page.

The First "Montessori Minds Meetup" Workshop was a Success!

💜 We are filled with joy after the incredible day we spent at the very first Montessori Minds Meetup on May 30th! 💜

We were inspired and energized by our fellow Montessorians’ presence at this inaugural workshop hosted in Cleveland. These passionate leaders are part of a social movement to create positive change in the senior living industry. We learned just as much from them as they did from us.

“This was the most fun workshop I have ever been a part of. The enthusiasm that all of its leaders have is palpable. Similarly, the other attendees all wanted to be there! The content was great and diverse. It was applicable to all attendees with varied management, clinical, direct care backgrounds.”
