Dear Craig,

Congratulations on getting a spot on the entrants list for the 2024 Western States Endurance Run. For many that is the hardest part of Western States. This is the first of several update emails you will receive from me leading up to the pre-race briefing on June 28 up at Olympic Valley. These will also be available on our website. To stay up on the latest news you may also wish to follow us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.

Participant Guide

We updated our performance, pacer, and crew rules in 2021. It was mostly cleaning up language and making the rules consistent as they had evolved and expanded over 50 years of the race. Please be sure to read them and the whole Participant Guide.

International Runners

If you are traveling from overseas be sure to check out the services we provide to international runners to help ease the extra stress of long travel, language and unfamiliarity. Please see our International Page for more details.

Training Runs

One of the best ways to become familiar with the course is to come to our training runs on Memorial Day Weekend (May 25-27). We cover the final 70 miles of the course over three days. These are not races but supported training runs. For more details see our website or go to ultrasignup to register.

Refund Schedule and Wait List

If you must withdraw for any reason, the next person on the wait list will be given the opportunity to take your place on the start line. If you withdraw before 1 pm on Friday before the race, you will retain your lottery tickets. We will refund part of your entry fee:

75% if you withdraw by May 1, 2024

50% between May 2 and June 9, 2024

25% between June 10 and June 20, 2024

no refund after June 20, 2024

Because we exhausted our 50-person wait list in 2021, we drew 75 names for the 2022 wait list and exhausted that. For 2024 we also drew a 75 person wait list which you can see here.

Service Requirement

Since the pandemic the WSER board has not required volunteer work and won't again for the 2024 race. We still encourage you to help out with trail work and at races in your state or country.

Enjoy the journey to the start line at Olympic Valley.

Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
