2025 CALIFORNIA 4-H STATE POSTAL and NEW 3D ARCHERY CHAMPIONSHIP

Details for the 4th Annual California State 4-H Archery Shooting Sports Postal Tournament and 1st Annual California State 3D Archery Championship are now available.

Archery Postal Match Registration

Due on or before April 4, 2025.  Entry fees may be paid ONLY by check from the local 4-H council. Make checks payable to Merced County 4-H, and send to: Merced County 4-H, 2145 Wardrobe Ave, Merced, CA 95341 with your club's entry form.

Divisions

(by age as of December 31, 2024)

  1. Junior (ages 9-10)
  2. Intermediate (ages 11-13)
  3. Senior (ages 14-19)


Categories:

  1. Longbow – no sights (wooden arrows only)  
  2. Recurve bow - no sights 
  3. Recurve bow – with sights  
  4. Compound bow – no sights  
  5. Compound bow – with sights  
  6. Archery leaders (50 yards only, 18 arrows).


4-H members entry fee is $10 for the first category, they may enter up to 2 additional categories at a $5.00 entry fee for each additional category (i.e.: 3 entries = $20, 2 entries = $15). Leaders may enter one category for $10.


Competition:

Entrants will shoot only 18 arrows total (2 ends of 3 arrows at each distance) and only score those 18 arrows. This is an 18-arrow event; there should only be 18 holes in each target. The same target will be moved and shot at each distance. All shooting must take place in the project leader's presence.


Scoring will take place at the Merced County Extension Office during the week of June 16th to allow time for target return. Returned targets must be post marked by COB June 2nd, 2025 to be eligible.


Winners will be awarded a Certificate emailed to their county extension office for awarding locally. Certificates will only be issued for the top three places in each category.

Shooters may enter only one category. The county office must verify enrollment. Completed entry form and check from the county, made payable to: Tulare County 4-H Leader’s Council (TC 4-H LC) is DUE to the Tulare County 4-H Office, 4437-B S. Laspina Street, Tulare, CA 93274, by Friday, April 4, 2025. Pre-registration is required, no on-site registrations accepted.

The competition will be conducted in accordance with the rules of the National Shooting Sports Championship 3D round. There are two categories: Compound and Recurve. At Nationals, there is no consideration for age; however, concession is made for age groups and there are maximum shooting distances for each. As much as possible, competitors will be paired with archers from other clubs and kept within their own age group. No archers will be allowed to preview or shoot the course after April 1, 2025.


The range is a walking range in the mountains with some severe inclines and declines. Hiking shoes/ boots are recommended. Crocs/sandals are not allowed per 4-H policy.


Divisions and Maximum Shooting Distances:

(Age as of December 31, 2024)

Juniors (9-10 years old) – 25 yards

Intermediates (11-13 years old) – 35 yards

Seniors (14-19 years old) – 50 yards

Leaders - 50 yards


Course of Fire:

The course is 30 unmarked 3D targets. There are 3 sets of “tees” at each target, color coded for age groups. Scoring will follow the IBO format. Only one arrow will be shot at each target.
