ABOUT THE NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL

WESTERN HERITAGE MUSEUM

Founded in 2001, the museum highlights the multicultural contributions of Hispanic Americans, Native Americans, European Americans, Asian Americans, and African Americans to the settlement of the American frontier. Its collection features works by artists and individuals who documented the people and events of that era through journals, photographs, and other historical items, many of which have been overlooked. These materials together tell a more complete story of our shared history. Through various educational programs—such as storytelling sessions, the "Forgotten Cowboys Tour," cultural heritage workshops, historical reenactments, and participatory learning—the museum promotes an appreciation of our multicultural Western heritage. These initiatives aim to instill positive values of diversity, tolerance, hard work, and determination. Visitors to the museum and those attending our traveling exhibitions gain a deeper understanding that the American West was shaped by the struggles and triumphs of a racially and socio-economically diverse population.
