We are faced with the prospect of more raids, deportations, and increasing militarization of our city streets. Your financial support is needed now more than ever, so that Strangers No Longer can grow our network of Circles of Support and continue to provide education, direct support, and advocacy to promote humane immigration policies. Every dollar counts!

It's time for our 3rd annual Grassroots Fall Fundraiser Campaign. In past years, we have raised $65,420 and $97,297. But this year, things are different. We are experiencing tough times with attacks on immigrant brothers and sisters, as well as, cutbacks to programs that helped us expand our connection with people across the state. The CDC funding for our Bird Flu educational outreach to Dairy Workers finished on Sept. 30.

Many thanks to those members who have contributed to Strangers No Longer this year. Nearly 90% of our members, however, have not yet made a contribution. To reach our goal of $120,000, we need every Circle member and friend to contribute during the next 6 weeks. The health of a grassroots, community organization like Strangers No Longer, will be determined by the number of grassroots contributions, not by grants from foundations or the government.

Solemn Procession to ICE Office

On July 14, 2025, Stranger No Longer held a solemn procession from Most Holy Trinity Church to the ICE headquarters in Detroit. Over 500 people from all over Michigan came from different parishes, churches, faith communities, and organizations, including Detroit Archbishop Weisenburger.

"The purpose was to show support for our immigrant brothers and sisters," said Father David Buersmeyer. "We feel that the policies and procedures being used on our immigrant sisters and brothers are too disruptive, causing fear and chaos."

After being denied entrance into the federal building, and unable to deliver a letter to the ICE Director, US Sen. Gary Peter's office intervened.

A few weeks later, a group of SNL leaders were able to meet with ICE Director, Kevin Raycraft to express their concerns about the inhumane treatment of immigrants and the impact ICE's tactics are having on our community

Focus: Seeing Christ in the Immigrant

Strangers No Longer was highlighted in the Spring 2025 publication of the Focus: Seeing Christ in the Immigrant. Circle Leaders were encouraged to order free copies of the Focus to handout at their local parishes. Here is a short insert from the publication:

Another individual who has benefited from the group’s assistance is Felipe, who left Mexico to escape the violence of the cartels and to seek better healthcare after his wife suffered a miscarriage.

Felipe found work in Michigan, but was injured on the job, leaving him unable to support himself for several months. To make matters worse, his wife’s tourist visa expired, forcing her return to Mexico and leaving him alone in Michigan as he awaits surgery.

'I reached a point where I hit bottom and I didn’t know what to do,” he said through a translator. He eventually found Strangers No Longer, and is trying to get his surgery arranged in addition to connecting him to their community of support.

“Thanks to Strangers No Longer, I’ve been able to survive all this.”

Since this article was published, Strangers No Longer arranged for him to get the surgery and connected him to a lawyer who helped him successfully win a Workers Comp claim.
