February 2025

Dear MHCC familia,

Just like that, January 2025 is in the rear view mirror, but not without leaving us entering February with a high degree of uncertainty and heightened concern. The flurry of executive orders signed by our president related to DEI and immigration, coupled with the impending tariffs and the economic impact these will have on our businesses and the marketplace, have us on edge. As the impact of these evolve, it’s more important than ever to support one another as Chamber members and be a resource wherever possible, sharing knowledge and insight.

In the midst of this, the MHCC maintained its focus on connecting entrepreneurs and businesses, holding our first Tercer Jueves Business Networking event of the year in January at Chase Bank in Detroit’s Corktown community. The community center was buzzing with 130 guests in attendance, comprised of existing and future MHCC members. Thank you, Chase, for hosting and sharing the opportunities that exist for so many entrepreneurs to engage with your team and take hold of your no-cost resources available.

We also held our Annual Membership Meeting last month in our Auburn Hills office. The MHCC team highlighted 2024 accomplishments, our 2025 objectives, and the input we always want from our members to help us improve, deliver on our Mission, and support the needs of your business. It was great to see so many long-time and new MHCC members join us, some all the way from Grand Rapids and Holland! As the year progresses, please take the time to reach out to us directly or complete the membership survey QR code below, to share your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Mark A. Moreno

Executive Director

21st Annual Economic Forum Breakfast

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Join Us for our 21st Annual Economic Forum Breakfast!

The Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce proudly presents its first Signature Event of 2025 – the 21st Annual Economic Forum Breakfast!  This premier gathering brings together business leaders, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss key economic trends shaping Michigan's future.

Keynote Speaker:

Mike Duggan, Mayor of Detroit

We are honored to have Mayor Mike Duggan join us as our keynote speaker, sharing valuable insights on Detroit’s economic landscape and future opportunities.

About Mayor Mike Duggan:

Mike Duggan has dedicated his career to building bridges and improving the lives of Michigan residents. A lifelong Michigander born in Detroit, he has tackled some of the state’s most complex challenges, including crime, blight, transportation, health care, and job access.

Elected in 2013 as a write-in candidate, Duggan’s grassroots approach enabled him to carry 92% of Detroit precincts, leading to his re-election twice. Today, he is the second-longest-serving mayor in Detroit’s history.

His leadership philosophy? Collaboration. By working closely with Detroit’s City Council, business leaders, labor organizations, and community advocates, Duggan has achieved what many once thought impossible, revitalizing Detroit’s economy and strengthening its business environment.

SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

A Conversation with Mexico’s Secretary of Economy

Our Executive Director Mark Moreno had the opportunity with other Detroit business leaders, to welcome Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubon, to Detroit in January. Thanks to the sponsorship of MichAuto and the Mexican Consulado of Detroit, the conversation with the Secretary pertained to fostering stronger Detroit-Mexico trade relations, and what that looks like for our countries with two new presidents in office. As the automotive industry plays such a significant role in our trade partnership, businesses were later invited by the Secretary to consider their potential involvement in participating in a future task force toward strengthening our trade relations.

Tour of the Operating Engineers Local 324 Education Center in Howell, MI

MHCC Executive Director Mark Moreno had the opportunity to tour the Operating Engineers Local 324 Education Center in Howell, MI, in January. The center is located on 560 acres and provides outdoor and indoor ‘state of the art’ ongoing training and apprenticeship programs to individuals across a wide range of skilled trades, supporting Michigan’s construction industry. Thank you, Boris Porras Rios and MHCC member Angelo Kapp, for coordinating the visit. Special thanks to OE324 Executive Director Lee Graham and his team for the opportunity and for sharing how OE324 supports our member businesses in the construction industry, like Ideal Steel and Barton Malow.
