Coconino County Shows Strong Leadership at the 2025 Arizona Workforce Summit

The 2025 Arizona Workforce Summit brought together workforce leaders from across the state to address the evolving challenges and opportunities shaping Arizona’s labor market—today and into the future.

Team Coconino had a strong presence at this important event, including the full board staff; Program Manager Sandra Darling and Career Coach Cori Cusker from our Title 1B service provider, Eckerd Connects; Title III Supervisor Linda Branch; Board Member Carolyn Kidd; Coconino County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Jeronimo Vásquez (District 2); and Dr. Mark Maciha, Dean at Coconino Community College.

We were especially proud to see Billy Francis, Executive Director of the Coconino County Workforce Development Board, serve as a panelist during the summit. He shared key insights and elevated our region’s voice by highlighting the real-world challenges and opportunities local workforce boards face under WIOA—Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act—implementation.

Together, our participation reaffirmed our commitment to innovation, collaboration, and building a resilient, inclusive workforce for Coconino County and beyond.

A Letter from Title I-B Program Manager

What a month it's been! We launched the first cohort of our Youth Explo program (a new name and outreach materials tailored to our target audience are on the way). Seven youth were placed with local employers, including Little America, Forestdale Farms, Tynkertopia, and the Coconino County Criminal Justice Council and Communications Departments.

Before placement, participants completed a week of training that included onboarding and sessions from our partners at Goodwill, the Economic Policy Institute, and Bruce Sobczak of Sobo & Associates. We even included a shopping trip to help the youth prepare for their new roles!

If you’d like to learn more about the program, feel free to reach out to Sandra Darling.
