VACATION IN "VACATIONLAND" - A MAINE GUIDE

Charlie Soltan (ME) and his wife, Kathy, have put together a vacation guide for some of their favorite places in Maine to share with you all. They invite you to spend extra time with family or loved ones before, or after the Fall Meeting. Fall foliage is typically in it’s prime around early-mid October, and it is a stunning time to visit the state. You can download the guide here, and also view it on the SLR Fall 2025 Meeting page.

Here’s a note from Charlie:

“We are looking forward to having SLR here in Portland and wish to share some ideas with everyone to make it a memorable trip and worth the little extra time it takes to get here. Maine has been attracting non-indigenous vacationers since 1604, and possibly a few Norsemen before that, and now is the best time ever!”

Questions? Just ask Charlie or Kathy: Charles.soltan@soltanbass.com, kgillissoltan@gmail.com

FALL MEETING FISHING TRIP OPPORTUNITY

Vermont SLR member, Warren Coleman, is organizing a coastal fishing trip for striped bass during our Portland meeting in October. Please let us know if you have interest in joining the trip as Warren has one boat reserved but wanted to see if there is interest in reserving a second boat which needs to be done ASAP. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Warren directly.

Come enjoy a morning fishing for striped bass around the coastal waters of Portland. Warren is organizing two charter boats that can accommodate 4-5 anglers per boat for an excursion on Thursday morning (10/2) from 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.  We will be back in plenty of time for any SLR Thursday afternoon activities/Board meeting.

The boats are large, comfortable, stable and safe for fishing and exploring the nearshore waters of Maine.  Striped bass are the primary targeted species and are a premier game fish that can be found from New Brunswick all the way down the Atlantic Coast, but their premier summer grounds are coastal Maine down to Cape Cod. We will practice "catch and release" of these tremendous game fish. All you will need is appropriate clothing for cool early morning temperatures and we can bring any food and drink we choose.

Cost which includes a gratuity will be approximately $200/pp. Please let us know ASAP if you are interested in joining.

SGAC - 50 IN 50 CAPITOL CHALLENGE

Join the 50 in 50 Capitol Challenge! In honor of SGAC's milestone year, they are challenging members and supporters to help them visit all 50 state capitols by July 31, 2025, while raising funds for Faces & Voices of Recovery, a nonprofit helping individuals in recovery, their families, and communities.

Help SGAC's beloved mascot, Lobby the Lobster visit all 50 state capitols! Attached is the list of state visits Lobby the Lobster has made. He has 5 more to go!

To join the journey: Snap a photo with Lobby at any state capitol and email it - along with the date and location to Taylor Mullon.

Please reach out to Katie to get a stuffed lobster. Every entry qualifies for prize drawings and those who visit the most states will be treated to a lobster dinner in Boston this summer during NCSL.

Congratulatory Resolutions

In addition, they are asking members to help them achieve congratulatory resolutions from all 50 states for their anniversary. Attached a sample resolution (it does not need to be verbatim) and the list of states where we have commitments for introduction of resolutions.
